Army Supply Depot in KANRI (間里), 24 km due N of P’YONGYANG.
The Ministry of National Defense Central Supply Depot, composed of 30 concrete warehouses, each measuring 50 m x 13 m x 3.5 m, in an area measuring 1 km square was located 100 m SE of the KANRI Station and at the foot of a 30 m high hill which overlooked the village of KANRI.
The Guard Company strength was estimated at app 150 men. According to a sentry, this company was equipped with MAXIM HMG’s, rifles and SMG’s.
Because this was the central supply depots for the entire NKA, rice was shipped to units in HAMHUNG (咸興), NANAM (羅南) HOERYONG (會寧), due to shortages in these areas.
This depot was completed sometime in October of 1949. Since then its main storage item was rice. At least 25 of the 30 warehouses contained rice. Other supplies included biscuits and canned goods (beef, mackerel).
According to the PW’s experience, it was fairly easy to procure rice from the Depot. It was just a matter of having a slip of paper (requisition for the unit) stamped by the aration Deputy (食糧部), Rations Bureau (食糧局), of the Ministry of National Defense. INfantry divisions and regiments procured their rice through the Ration Section (食糧課) which was subordinate to the Rations Depot.
