3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
Was conscripted into the N Korean Army on 24 Jul 50 at WONSON. Did not receive any training. Stayed in a mountain tunnel until 16 Sep 50. On 17 Sep 50 his unit was sent to KYONGSONG, arrived on 20 Sep 50. After a brief encounter with the UN Forces, the 563rd Inf Unit retreated north.
Unit Organization and Strength:
563rd Inf Unit - 600 men in Bn.
Equipment:
LMGs and Auto Rifles.
Unit History:
563rd Unit guarded the Wonson area from 28 Jul to 16 Sep 50 along the seashore. Hid in tunnels located in the mountains during daylight hours.
Dispositions:
One (1) Naval Regt and one (1) Bn of Air Corps troops believed to be in Wonson Area. Possibly an Arty Regt stationed on islands located in Wonson Harbor.
Between the mountain and the shore line a trench was dug and land mines were layed on the shore side of the trench.
