The PW appeared to be of average intelligence. He was assigned to SECUIRTY FORCE as an accountant in Sep 50, but surrendered before reaching his unit. No further interrogation.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
18 Aug 50 - PW received notice of conscription at WONSAN.
5 Sep 50 - 50 men including the PW who were about to enter the service assembled at P’YONGYANG (平壤) and departed for SEOUL (서울). All the men were accountants.
10 Sep 50 - The group, including the PW arrived at SEOUL via HAEJU (海州) and KAESONG (開城). Upon arrival at SEOUL, men were inducted into the SECURITY FORCE and assigned to SK provinces as accountants. The assignments were given from the SECURITY DEPT, Ministry of Internal Affairs in SEOUL.
20 Sep 50 - The PW arrived at CHONJU (全州) on foot via SUWON (水原) , CH’ONAN (天安) and KONGJU (公州) and reported to sub-section of the SECURITY DEPT, called the Provincial Administration Section. He was then commissioned to Jr Lt (少尉) and was to be assigned to CHOLLA PUK TO (全羅北道).
26 Sep 50 - Before PW could arrive at his place of assignment, troops were ordered to retreat N of 38˚ parallel.
29 Sep 50 - PW surrendered 8 km E of TAEJON (大田).
Original Organization:
The PW stated that the SECURITY DEPT was under direct supervision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The prefectural
Administration Sections in occupied SK prefectures were under the Security Dept which was located at SEOUL. The PW recalled following Sub-sections in the province’s administration section:
Education Section
Finance Section
Public Service Section
Fire Section
Communication Section
Intendance Section
Personnel Section
General Affairs Section
All the sections except education section were supervised by a captain. He stated that the education section was headed by a major. There was also a criminal investigation dept (Col in charge), as a separate unit under the province’s administration section.
Due to frequent air attacks NK Navy guard units who were formerly stationed at WONSAN (원산) evacuated to mountain 2 km N of WONSAN City. As of 26 Aug 50 the troops were still in the mountains. They were equipped with rifles and SMG’s.
Dispositions:
In Aug 5-0 the PW observed about five concrete pill boxes half way up the mountain immediately West of the City of WONSAN (元山). The PW observed these from a distance of 200 meters. Each measured 5 m in length, 4 m in width and 1 meter above the surface of the ground. Thickness of the walls was not known. There were two opening measured 80 cm x 30 cm. He stated three poll boxes out of five were still under construction. The construction of pill boxes took place in early part of Aug 50.
