ASSESSMENT:
Information limited but seems fairly reliable.

T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
The 35th Brigade was composed of: 4 x Infantry Bns, 1 x SMG Bn, 1 x 45 AT Gun Co, 1 x 122 mm howitzer Co, and 1 x guard Plat.
Each Infantry Bn was composed of 3 x Rifle companies, 1 x HMG company, 1 x 82 mm Mortar company, 1 x AT Rifle Platoon and 1 x Sig platoon.

LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:
35th Brigade dispersed at CHONGJU on 23 Sep 50, while PW was at CHINCHON scrounging for supplies.

PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted 5 Jan 48, at HAERYON and assigned to the 2nd Division 4th Regt, for training purposes. On 10 Oct 48, the 2nd Division was transferred to HAMHUNG. (Commissioned 10 Oct 48) Between Oct 48 and 10 Jun 50, the PW was mess officer for the 4th Regt.

US PW'S:
The PW, while hospitalized at SEOUL, saw about 300 US PW’s. Present whereabouts of PW1 s unknown.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
The 35th Brigade was activated o/a 15 Sep 50 at CHONGJU. The Brigade was composed of approximately 8,000 troops, most of whom were South Korean conscripts and former members of the volunteer units (GYU GUN). About 10% of the South Korean conscripts were pro-communists who volunteered to serve the brigade. 90% of the South Koreans were forced to join the brigade.
The South Korean conscripts were from CHONGJU and its surrounding area.
All officers and NCO's in the brigade were North Koreans.
The troops from the brigade, upon completion of training were to be dispatched to the front line units. The town (village, etc) peoples committee (pro-communists) set up by the North Korean Army in occupied areas was responsible for the conscription of South Koreans.
The town peoples committee went from house to house, recruiting youths between the ages of 20 to 30. Anyone refusing to enlist was punished. Punishments included:
(1) Imprisonment of parents.
(2) Confiscation of home and all personal property.
(3) Destruction of homes.
(4) Rice ration cut off.
