1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative, but not very observant. His information seemed fairly reliable. PW’s Co was engaged in construction of air raid shelters for ⅠCorps Hqs. PW escaped to NK from Manchuria in Jun 47, because he did not want to be conscripted into the CCF. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
29 Aug 47 - PW was inducted at SINUIJU (新義州).
o/a 27 Dec 47 - Sent to the Infantry School in P’YONGYANG. About 80 men including PW received advanced training in the Engr Co of the Infantry school. Subjects covered were construction of wooden bridges, road repair, mine setting, use of dynamite, etc.
3 Oct 48 - Graduated and commissioned a Lt (中尉). Assigned to the 2nd Co, 3rd Bn, 576th Engr Regt as assistant CO. The 576th Engr Regt was formerly the Engr Bn of GHQ and was enlarged to a regt in Sep 48. The 576th Engr Regt was located at KAN-NI (間里) (approx 8 km N of P’YONGYANG). PW trained the men under his command until 15 Jun 50.
15 Jun 50 - The Regt departed “KAN-NI by train for SEOUL.
18 Jun 50 - The Regt reached YONCH’ON (漣川). The CO of the 2nd Co-3rd Bn was hospitalized for tuberculosis. PW took command of the 2nd Co and was promoted to Sr Lt (大尉) 30 Jun 50.
o/a 25 Jun 50 - The 2nd and the 4th Bn’s of the Regt crossed
the 38th parallel. PW heard that the 2nd and the 4th Bn’s were attached to the 2nd Corps. PW had not seen the 2 Bn’s since it crossed the 38˚ parallel.
2 Jul 50 - The 1st and the 3rd Bn’s of the Regt departed YONCH’ON. All the Co’s of both Bn’s were to be attached to the Tank Div’s (designations unknown) of the ⅠCorps, except the 2nd Co, 3rd Bn.
o/a 12 Jul 50 - The 2nd Co reached ⅠCorps Hqs in SEOUL and remained with ⅠCorps Hqs in SEOUL until 25 Jul 50.
25 Jul 50 - ⅠCorps Hqs (including the 2nd Co) departed SEOUL.
o/a 3 Aug 50 - Corps Hqs reached P’YONGT’AEK (平澤). Where it remaiend about a week.
o/a 11 Aug 50 - Corps Hqs departed P’YONGT’AEK.
o/a 21 Aug 50 - The ⅠCorps Hqs passed through CH’ONAN (天安), TAEJON (大田) and reached a mountain 12 km N of MUJU (茂朱). ⅠCorps Hqs was established in the foot of the mountain. Corps Hqs remained here about 10 days.
3 Sep 50 - ⅠCorps Hqs moved to a village located 14 km W of KORYONG (高靈). Corps Hqs stayed here for about a week.
o/a 18 Sep 50 - Corps Hqs moved to a village located 1 km N of HYOPCH’ON (陜川) and remained there for about 3 days.
o/a 20 Sep 50 - Corps Hqs moved to a village located approx 16 km E of KOCH’ANG (居昌) and remained there for 2 days.
22 Sep 50 - The Chief of Staff (Maj Gen Name Unk) of ⅠCorps ordered PW to obtain dynamite from the 2nd Div Hqs, which was at a village located approx 6 km N of KOCH’NAG, to destroy the KOCHANG bridge. PW took 15 of his men to the 2nd Div Hqs, but there was no dynamite.
25 Sep 50 - When the men returned to the village 16 km E of KOCH’ANG, ⅠCorps Hqs was no longer there. They observed US tnaks entering the village and fled into the mountains. At that time, the men separated. PW and 3 men left for the North. While they were walking through the mountains, they met an NK soldier and heard that the ⅠCorps Hqs had evacuated to TAEJON. 29 Sep 50 - When the 4 men reached a mountain approx 3 km W of OKCH’ON (沃川), they met 8 NK troops. PW heard from them that the US troops were near TAEJON. They all decided to surrender.
30 Sep 50 - PW took the 12 men and surrendered to ROK troops at OKCH’ON. When they surrendered, PW showed a safe conduct pass which had been picked up by one of his men.
