3. CHRONOLOGY:3 Mar 26: Born in CHILIN (吉林) MANCHURIA. Was a farmer until 1945.
20 Oct 45: Was compelled to join the militia, continued farming.
19 Sep 47: With 60 fellow militiamen, reported to the head office at YENCHI-HSIEN (延吉縣).
26 Sep. 47: Departed YENCHI-HSIEN (延吉縣).
15 Oct 47: Arrived YENTUNGSHAN (煙筒山) and was assigned to the Ind 72nd Infantry Regt, 2nd Bn, HMG Plat, 1st Sqd as a pvt.
15 Oct 47 - 15 Nov 47: Basic training.
16 Nov 47: Departed YENTUNGSHAN (煙筒山) with the entire Regt.
15 Dec 47: Arrived SHUANGHOCHEN (雙河鎭).
16 Dec 47: The Regt CO informed the men that the 72nd Regt was assigned to the Korean 11th Div.
16 Dec 47: 72nd Regt left SHUANGHOCHEN.
20 Dec 47: Arrived CHALUHO (全路河).
13 Jan 48: Korean and Chinese soldiers of the 72nd Regt were separated.
16 Jan 48: About 2 Korean Bns of the 72nd Regt departed for SANGTOHANGKU (Kanji Unknown) for assignment to the 164th Div.
15 Feb 48: Arrived SANGTOHANGKU, Assigned to the 164th Div, 1st Regt, 2nd Bn.
22 Feb 48: 164th Div left SANGTOHANGKU.
5 Oct 48: Arrived CHANGCHUN (長春).
Oct 48 - Jul 49: Basic training on Japanese HMG.
20 Jul 49: Departed CHANGCHUN (長春).
24 Jul 49: Arrived NANAM (羅南).
5. CCF MILITIA AND PUBLIC SECURITY UNITS:Establishment:
The Militia in each block of the villages was established in accordance with orders from the 8th Route Army on 20 Oct 45. Service with it was compulsory for young people of age 18 - 21 and there was no fixed period of service. Members would stay at their own homes. The Militia was used as follows.
1. To protect personal property
2. To protect the village from guerrillas or any other enemies.
Incidents were reported to the higher security units. Bells were used to contact the other Militia Units within the village in case of emergency.
Organization:
In each block of the village there were one or· two platoons. If there were two, one consisted of Chinese and one of Koreans. Each platoon had about 30 men. There were 3 squads to each platoon and about 10 men to each squad, The squad leaders were designated by the platoon leaders.
Duty:
The Militia participated in no training whatsoever. During the day members worked at their own occupations. During the night, 1 Chinese and 1 Korean were posted around the city blocks from 1900 to 0600. They were armed with wooden (Sic) rifles and were held responsible for any incident occurring during their tour of duty.
