2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation, was cooperative, and of average intelligence. PW was weaving towels at his home prior to joining the Nationalist Army. Interrogation was conducted thru a Korean interpreter who has knowledge of Chinese and evaluation of information should be assessed accordingly. Not recommended for further interrogation. PW interrogated by 24 Div PW team 18 Nov 50.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW joined the Chinese Nationalist Army, 15 Aug 48 and served until his capture by the CCF 2 Nov 49. PW held the rank of an assistant Squad leader while with the Nationalist Army. Upon capture by the CCF, PW was assigned to the 39th Army, 117th Div, 351st Regt on the same day. The 39th Army Hq was located at CHINCHOU (錦州) on 2 Nov 49. From 2 Nov 49 to 10 Oct 50, the 351st Regt was located at KWANGSI (廣西) for 2 months, at HUNAN (湖南) for 2 months, at HONAN (河南) for 3 months, and at LIAOYANG (遼陽) for 2 months. Basic infantry, mountain climbing, and night combat training were conducted at the above locations. Mid Oct 50, the 351st Regt departed LIAOYANG (遼陽) and after 20 days of continuous marching, the Regt arrived in the vie of UNSAN (00928). Place where PW crossed the border is unknown, however, PW stated that he passed through the province of KWANTIEN-HSIEN (廣甸縣) prior to crossing the YALU River. The 351st Regt was located approx 5 miles from UNSAN (direction unk). 180500 Nov 50, PW's squad of 11 men was given a mission of conducting an outpost and marched approx 30 minutes to their destination. PW's duty was to notify the Regt by firing few shots into the air if enemy troops were sighted. 180800 Nov 50, PW and one other deserted the squad upon sighting US troops and surrendered,

b. Unit Organization and Strength
39th Army composed of 115th, 116th, 117th and 1 Arty Divs (unit designation unk). 117th Div is composed of the 351st Regt and 2 unk rifle regts. 351st Regt is composed of 3 Bns, Arty co, HW Co, Propaganda Plat, and Medical Plat. The 3rd Bn is composed of the 7th, 8th, and 9th Cos and l MG Co. The 8th Co is composed of 3 rifle plats and mortar plat.

c. Equipment
Inf troops were all armed with Japanese type rifles. Arty Co had 6 guns, similar to 122mm M1938 How. Heavy Weapons Co had 3 HMGs, 2 Bazookas, and 3x120mm mortars. MG Co was equipped with 3 HMGs and 3x120mm mortars. Each Inf Co had 9 LMGs. Above weapons were brought into KOREA.

d. Dispositions
351st Regt located in vie of UNSAN when last observed.

e. Communications
PW heard that communication was carried out by wireless and telephones, details unk.

f. Knowledge of other Units
PW heard that the 38th Army also crossed the YALU River into KOREA.

g. Personalities
TOU, Kun (杜昆) … Plat Ldr

h. Morale and Propaganda
Morale of the troops in PW's unit is low due to lack of food and forced marches. States majority of the men are former Nationalist soldiers and were forced to cross the border to fight in KOREA. Approx 80% of the men in the 351st Regt intend to desert.

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo Supplies
Food war procured locally and PW never witnessed food or ammo being transported from the rear to the front lines. Each man was issued 60 rounds of s/a ammo when they crossed the border, no additional ammo was received.

b. US Prisoners of War
On 9 Nov 50, PW observed 4 US PsW in vie of UNSAN marching northward. Further details unknown.

c. CCF Air Force and Navy
PW observed 10 single-engine fighter planes (type unk) flying over LIAOYANG around Sept 50.
