2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was wounded in his left ankle by US aircraft strafing. 1939, PW went to JAPAN and entered the WASEDA University. PW studied Economy and after graduating in 1943, he returned to KOREA. Jan 44, PW volunteered into the Japanese Army. Due to PW’s physical condition, detailed interrogation was impossible. PW was cooperative and of above average intelligence. Information is considered reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW volunteered into the Japanese Army Jan 44. PW was assigned to the 41st Unit and Feb 44, he was sent to SHUICHOU (徐州), CHINA. 4 Sep 44 he deserted his unit. After deserting his unit, PW was captured by the Chinese Communist Force and was forced to join the Korean Volunteer Army which was located at TAISHUNSAN (太行山), CHINA. PW remained at TAISHUNSAN until Aug 45. Aug 45, the Volunteer Army moved to KWANDO (間島), MANCHURIA. PW remained at KWANDO until Aug 46. In Aug 46, the Volunteer Army moved to P’YONGYANG. In Sept 46, PW's Unit was redesignated as the 2nd Div, NKA and was sent to NANAM (EB5717). At this time, PW was commissioned a Captain. PW remained at NANAM until Dec 413 and during this time, he was promoted to Major. In Dec 48, PW was transferred to the 4th Brigade located at CHINNAMP'O (Y01090) and was promoted to Lt Col. PW was appointed as operation chief and remained at CHINNAMP’O until Jul 50. 15 Jul 50, PW was transferred to the 25th Coast Defense Brigade. At this time, the Brigade consisted of staff officers only and after PW transferred to the Brigade, it began to recruit personnel to fill vacancies. Approx 6,200 men were recruited and given approx 20 days of training on coast line defense. 18 Oct 50, the Brigade received orders to withdraw to PAKCH’ON (YE2100). Enroute to PAKCH'ON, PW was wounded by us aircraft strafing at vic of TONGDU-MYON 21 Oct 50 and was left behind. Due to his wound, PW was unable to walk and remained in vie of TONGDU-MYON and was captured by the Security Police who later turned him over to the 1st ROK Div on 10 Nov 50.

b. Unit Organization and Strength.
The 25th Brigade consisted of the following: 3 Ind Inf Bns, Arty Bn, Sig Bn, Engr Bn, 45mm Gun Bn, Medical Bn, Recon Co, Transportation Co, Guard Platoon, and AA MG Platoon.
Each Ind Inf Bn consisted of 3 Rifle Cos, HMG Co, 82mm Mortar Co, Supply Plat, Med Plat, 45mm Gun Plat, and Sig Plat.
Each Rifle Co consisted of 3 Rifle Plats and 1 HMG Plat.
Each HMG Co consisted of 3 Plats.
The Arty Bn consisted of 3 Btrys (1 x 122mm Gun Btry and 2 x 76mm Gun Btrys)
The Engr and Sig Bns consisted of 3 Cos each,
The 45mm Gun Bn consisted of three 45mrn Gun Cos and AT Rifle Co.
The Med Bn consisted of 2 Cos.
T/O strength of the 25th Brigade was approx 700 officers and 5,500 men. T/O strength of the Ind Inf Bn was approx 54 officers and 890 men; T/O strength of the Arty Bn, approx 400; Sig Bn, approx 300; Engr Bn, approx 350; 45mm Gun Bn, approx 400; and Med Bn, approx 130. Approx 95% of the T/O strength was filled when the Brigade was located at CHINNAMP'O. Approx 100 men and 5 officers had deserted since then.

c. Equipment.
Arty Bn had 8 x 76mm Guns and 4 x 122mm Guns.
The 45mm Gun Bn had 12 x 45mm Guns (4 per Co) and 36 AT Rifles,
Each HMG Co had 12 HMGs (4 per plat).
Each Mortar Co had 9 x 82mm mortars.
Each Rifle Co had 2 HMGs and 12 LMGs. EM armed with rifles and carbines. Officers were armed with Tokarev pistols.
PW heard from the Sig Bn Comdr that the Sig Bn had 10 radios and 50 telephones.
All arty pieces were abandoned when the Brigade was encircled by UN Forces in vic of TONGDU-MYON (YD3853) o/a 21 Oct 50.
