3. MILITARY HISTORY:14 Oct 50 - Inducted at HAMHUNG (咸興) and assigned to the 2nd Plat, 2nd Co, 249th Unit. Unit left HAMHUNG at night on foot.
16 Oct 50 - The 24 9th Unit arrived at SANGTONG RI (上通里).
18 Oct 50 - Unit disorganized by heavy US Arty fire. PW lost his unit. Arrived at HAGARU RI (下碣隅里) and rejoined his Co.
19 Oct 50 - The 249th Unit moved to UNSAN RI (雲山里) by foot.
3 Nov 50 - Unit arrived at UNSAN RI.
23 Nov 50 - The 2nd Co, 249th Unit left by foot.
25 Nov 50 - Arrived at HANDAE RI (漢垈里).
26 Nov 50 - The 2nd Co left HANDAE RI and arrived at WONPUNG RI (雲豊里).
27 Nov 50 - Surrendered to US troops after a surprised attack by US troops. Over half of the 2nd Co were killed. Remnant of the Co fled toward the west.
PW was told by Co commander that the 2nd Co was heading for ANSU MYON (安水面).
4. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:PW observed approx 2,000 to 3,000 CCF troops between UNSAN RI and HANDAE RI o/a 24 Nov 50. PW heard that there were approx 10 CCF troops in this area. There were also 7xT-34 tanks (camouflaged) in this area. All the CCF troops were armed with rifles, LMGs, HMGs and mortars. No heavier weapons. observed. Pack horses were seen.
5. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:PW heard that there were approx 10 Cos in this unit. Whereabouts of other Cos unknown. The 2nd Co had approx 135 men armed with rifles and 25 rds of ammo, and PPSH SMGs. There was one LMG in the Co. There were 3 Plats (3 Sqds to a Plat) (45 men to a Plat).
PW heard that the strength of the 249th Unit was approx 1,200-1,300.
6. MORALE:PW decided to surrender when he read a leaflet between UNSAN RI and HANDAE RI. Morale of troops was low due to lack of food.
