PW believes that there were 20% wounded and 20% dead in his 1st Bn at the present time,
T/O & E of higher echelon - unknown.
There was one Korean interpreter in each Company before crossing the YALU River. These men came into the unit from unknown places as soldiers (rank unk) on 13 Oct 50 at KAIWHEN (開原).
PW’s unit is intact and under the same chain of command now as it was prior to crossing the YALU River.
No parts of PW’s unit have been integrated into Korean units.
PW stated that there was one Arty Co which was directly attached to Battalion. PW saw 8 x 75mm (?) guns. PW further saw 8 x 92mm type Japanese guns on the 3rd day after crossing the YALU River. PW believed that these guns were Regt guns because of their sizes.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS: (as of 8 Nov 50)
PW’s unit came into KOREA to liberate the Korean people.
Location of CP’s and Headquarters unknown.
While the companies of the 1st Bn took positions on a mountain, they were suddenly shelled by artillery. The 1st Bn retreated to an unknown area, while PW was left behind by the Medics because they believed that the ROK troops were advancing.

5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted on 4 April 49 at PINCHUWAN (平川) into the 168th Inf Div (recruit training division).
Received 3 months of basic infantry training at PINCHUWAN and KAIWHEN (開原).
500 soldiers were placed into the 38th Army, 338th Regt in June 50 at KAIWHEN.
In Aug 49, approx 130 Koreans who were in the 168th Inf Div left for KOREA by military orders.
500 soldiers left PINCHUWAN in March 50 by foot, passing CHINJU (鎭州) and arrived at KAIWHEN on D/U May 50. These men were placed. into the 38th Army. 500 men went to KAIWHEN because the 38th Army lacked personnel in June 50.
Three (3) Inf Regts of the 2nd Div left KAIWHEN on 13 Oct 50 by train and arrived at MANPOJIN on 15 Oct 50 to liberate the Korean people.
On 16 Oct 50, PW saw approx 1,000 men which he believed to be from the 338th Regt cross by train over a cement bridge which spanned the YALU River and arrived at a small station in North KOREA after 4 hrs of travel.
On 17 Oct 50, the 338th Regt left this small station by foot and arrived at HUICHON on 5 Nov 50.
The 1st Bn left HUICHON by foot on 5 Nov 50 and arrived at PW's place of capture on 7 Nov 50.
PW did not see any other CCF troops other than his unit in KOREA.
PW's unit did not participate in the HAINAN Island invasion.

7. FOOD & AMMUNITION SUPPLIES:
Soldiers brought 4 days rations after crossing the YALU River.
Source and supplies of ammo and food unknown,

8, SIGNAL COMMUNICATIONS:
There were two signal guns in a battalion and one in a company.
Telephones were used at Bn and Regt levels.
Co to Platoon communication was by messenger.

9. MORALE:
The morale in his company was low because they lacked food and also because they were forced into the Army.

10. GENERAL INFORMATION:
PW was not a volunteer for Korean service.
PW’s unit was not a volunteer unit for KOREA.
PW’s unit did not undergo any amphibious training.
PW did not know anything about the Iron & Steel Brigade.
No Japanese were in the CCF Units.
PW did not know of Militia and Public Security Units in addition to their regular troops.
Persons of 18 to 40 yrs old and healthy, if seen by district officials, were placed into the Army without physical examination.
PW received 80,000 Yuan per month. Wages of various grades unknown.
PW did not know when the CCF troops started moving to MANCHURIA.
No paratroop training or paratroops in CCF.
Wherever the CCF troops are, the people there are placed into the Army by force.
PW did not know what happened to former Nationalist soldiers and equipment captured in MANCHURIA.
Political officers taught PW, who has no education, to write and also lectured him on the ideals of communism and SOVIET RUSSIA.
