4. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted into the CNA’s 62nd Army in KUANG TUNG SHENG (廣東省) during March 47.
Captured by the CCF on HAINAN Island (海南) on 23 April 50. PW stated that the CCF was practically unopposed on HAINAN Island (海南島) because the CCF invasion forces were numerically superior to the CNA forces on HAINAN Island (海南島). The CCF landed on HAINAN Island (海南島) at night and the CNA was unable to see the CCF ships. The PW was taken, with approx 10,000 other CNA soldiers captured on HAINAN Island, by the CCF to KUANG-TUNG SHENG (廣東省). There, the CCF indoctrinated the PW’s and gave them infantry training for 3 months.
Departed from KUANG-TUNG SHENG (廣東省) on 29 Jul 50, by train with approx 10,000 ex-CNA soldiers captured on HAINAN Island (海南島) and arrived at KAIYUAN (開原), MANCHURIA, on 15 Aug 50.
Inducted into the 38th Army (CCF) on 15 Aug 150, at KAIYUAN (開原).

Marched southward with the 1st Bn (at night only) until 18 Nov 50 when the PW's unit came into contact with ROK troops and began to withdraw northward without a fight.
Because of the unfamiliarity with KOREA, the PW was unable to give specific details as to the point of entry into KOREA and his route of march in KOREA.
As his unit withdrew, the PW remained behind with two other CCF EM because they were hungry and figured that the ROK would feed them. They surrendered to the ROK troops at 181500 I Nov 50.

PW knows of no Soviet or Japanese personnel in the 114th Division,

Upon departing from the Manchurian Border on 25 Oct 50, the 1st Bn brought 4 days rations. When this was exhausted, personnel subsisted by confiscating food from North Korean farmers.
