ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2609 8 November 1950
FIELD REPORT (2 - LDI - 0028) 15 November 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: TEN Jing Won
RANK: Pvt
DUTY: Rifleman
UNIT: 42nd Army, 125th Div, 374th Regt, 3rd Bn, 8th Co, 7th Plat
PLACE AND DATE OF CAPTURE: 13 Nov 50 at TCKCH’ON (BV6904)

2. ASSESSMENT:
Information, which seems reliable, was vague and incomplete due to his low rank and lack of education.
It is believed that further interrogation is unnecessary.
184th Nationalist Army Div was redesignated CCF 5th Div when they surrendered to the CCF 4th Field Army 11 Jun 46 in MANGHURIA. Jun 48 in HUNAN Prov, CHINA, 5th Div was given a code designation as the 125th Div and the 4th Regt has code name 374th Regt, The 4th Army was redesignated as the 42nd Army at PEIAN, MANCHURIA, in Apr 49.
The Regt departed TIECHON o/a 25 Oct 50 and crossed the YALU River into NORTH KOREA at MANPOJIN o/a 3 Nov 50. It was not known whether the remainder of the 125th Div or 42nd Army entered NK but heard 125th was to follow later. Arriving at TOKCH’ON o/a 7 Nov 50 and the 374th Regt Hqs was deployed approx 3 KMs W of TOKCH'ON. PW was captured after unit scattered under enemy Arty barrage.
Attached to the 374th Regt was a weapons company of approx 100 men. They had 10 HMG and 2 x 82mm mortars.
Units were given rations when they entered KOREA but this soon was exhausted. Each man was allowed 150 won in NK money, which was used to buy food from the local market. Salt was also used as means of exchange.
Each rifleman issued 30 rds of ammo; LMG with 300 rds/gun, HMG with 100 rds/gun and 60mm with 32 rds. As far as PW knows no new supply of ammo was distributed to his company since entering KOREA. No CCF tanks seen in KOREA.
About half (14-15) men in PW's plat are former CNA soldiers who had about 6 years of military experience.
On both approaches to the YALU River bridge at MANP'OJIN, PW observed concrete pillboxes mounted with an AA gun (type and calibre unk).
In KOREA unit movements were made at night marching 4-6 KMs from and parallel to main or secondary roads. Strict black out regulations were observed and neither fires nor cigarettes could be lit.
Traveling at night was extremely cold. During day, they slept in foxholes in wooded areas or stayed in civilian homes.

3. MORALE:
PW believes over half, (especially former Chinese Nationalists), are unwilling to fight and would desert their unit at the first opportunity. PW's opinion is that the CCF will be defeated in a short time due to lack of ammo, food and clothing.
