1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
TUNGHUA Unit, 2nd Branch Unit, was believed to be under the 4th Field Army. PW did not know whether TUNGHUA Unit, 2nd Branch Unit was a code name or the real name of his unit. PW was cooperative; although limited, information seems reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH OF:
Chinese Peoples Liberation Army, TUNGHUA Unit, 2nd Branch Unit, 37th Regt, 3rd Bn, 7th Co) 2nd Plat, 5th Sqd (other unit designations unknown).
CCF Army: Compositions unknown
TUNHUA Unit: 3 Inf Branch Units (lst, 2nd & 3rd) and one (1) Branch Mixed Unit (支数隊)
2nd Branch Unit: 3 Inf Regts (36th, 37th, 38th) and one (1) Branch Mixed Unit (支数隊)
37th Regiment: 3 Inf Bn 1s (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and one (1) Branch Mixed Unit.
3rd Battalion: 3 Inf Companies (7th, 8th, 9th) and one (1) Heavy Weapons Co (機砲這)
7th Company: 3 Inf Platoons (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
2nd Platoon: 3 Inf Squads (7th, 8th, 9th)
2nd Rifle Platoon:

All Branch Mixed units mentioned above also included, medic units, and service units besides artillery units.
PW did not see nor hear of any Koreans or interpreters in his unit, before and after crossing the YALU River.
Parts of PW’s unit have not been intergrated into Korean units.

4. LOCATIONS & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS: (as of 3 Nov 50).
Mission of PW’s unit was to stop US troops from entering CHINA. PW did not know what other CCF units come into KOREA.
PW deserted his unit on 3 Nov 50 and came to a bridge which spanned the YALU River with intentions to return to CHINA. However, since it was guarded, he turned around and wandered about the country until he was captured.
While he was wandering around the country, PW did not see any other units.

5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted into the CNA, Northeast 1st Guard Co at FUSHUN (撨順) in June 48.
Received 20 days of basic infantry training at FUSHUN.
Left FUSHUN in Aug 48 by foot and arrived at TEILIN (鉄嶺) in Oct 48.
Left TEILIN (鉄嶺) in Nov 48, passing TIENTSIN (天津), HANKOU (洪口), HUPEI (湖北), HUNAN (湖南), KUANGHSI (黃西), and arrived at NANNING (南寧) in Nov 49.
PW was captured by the CCF TIENTSIN Unit (天津部) in Nov 49 and was placed into the TIBNTSIN Unit, 2nd Branch Unit, 37th Regt, 3rd Bn, 7th Co, 2nd Plat, 5th Sqd. The 2nd Branch Unit left NANRI in Jan 50 by train and arrived at FUNAN shortly thereafter. The 2nd Branch Unit left FUNAN in Jan 50, by train and arrived at HUNAN (湖南) in Feb 50. Here, troops constructed irrigation canals and cultivated farm lands.
The 2nd Branch Unit left HUNAN, in July 50 by train and arrived at HAICHONG in Aug 50.
The 7th Co was subjected to another course of infantry training, Aug to Oct 50. TIENTSIN Unit was redesignated as TUNGHUA Unit, all other designation was unaltered.
The 2nd Branch Unit left HAICHCNG on 25 Oct 50 by train and arrived at ANTUNG on 26 Oct 50 via MUKDEN.
On the night of 28 Oct 50, PW saw his 7th Co crossing the bridge which spanned the YALU River from ANTUNG. The 7th Co by-passed SINUIJU and travelled to a mountain nearby. Route of travel from 28 Oct 50 to 3 Nov 50 was unknown.
On 3 Nov 50, PW deserted his unit and was captured at PAKC'HON area by 5th RCT on 13 Nov 50.
PW did not see other CCF units on his trip to KOREA.
PW's unit did not participate in the HAINAN Island invasion.

6. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
Troops brought two days ration when they crossed the YALU River. Source of food and ammo supplies unknown.

7. MORALE:
The morale in PW's Company was passive, Some men seemed to be happy; some were unhappy at entering KOREA.

8. SIGNAL COMMUNICATION:
Telephone was used between Bn and Co. Communication between Co and platoons was by messenger.

9. GENERAL INFORMATION:
PW was not a volunteer for Korean service.
PW’s unit was not a volunteer unit for KOREA.
No instructions had been given to CCF soldiers to appear to be volunteers if captured.
PW's unit did not undergo amphibious training.
PW did not know of the Iron & Steel Brigade.
No Jap units in CCF.
PW did not know if there were any Militia and Public Security Units in addition to their regular troops.
PW did not know what type of recruiting program the Chinese have.
PW received 70,000 Yuan per month,
PW did not know when the CCF units started moving into MANCHURIA.
PW did not know of any paratroop training or paratroops in the CCF.
PW stated that equipment of the former Nationalist soldiers was used by the CCF.
Propaganda instructors taught soldiers to write and also taught them folk songs.
