PW was inducted at CHINNAMP'O on 2 Aug 50 and received infantry basic training until 25 Aug 50. Approx 2300 men, inducted personnel, went to CHINJU by train and foot on or about 15 Sep 50. PW and approx 60 others were sent to HAMAN (127 25'-35 15') for Arty training at 663rd Unit on the same day. O/a 27 Sep 50 approx 600 men of 663rd Unit started an organized retreat toward north without pieces. When UN Forces started their offensive, recrossed 38 parallel at INJE (exact location & date unk). 1 Nov 50 PW left his unit at KOWON-GUN, 60 km (direction unk) from PUKCHANGANI (BU7186) because of his bad health. PW told to catch up with the unit at TAEPYONG (BU6985). PW observed approx 600 men in his unit and that two thirds of unit were armed with Russian made rifles, but did not observe any Arty pieces at the time he left his unit.
11 Nov 50 PW heard from a woman who lives in CHANGGE-RE that approx 50 NK troops were at this village.
PW believes that the morale of 663rd Unit is fairly high, because most of them believe that they will win this war and believe this retreat is a strategic withdrawal.
