Cooperative. PW seemed to be in fair physical condition.
Information is limited and Chinese characters are omitted throughout this report because PW is completely illiterate. Therefore, all place names are phonetic.
Although limited, information appears reliable.
3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH OF UNITS: (as of 16 Nov 50)17th Regt is composed of 3 battalions.
2nd Bn is composed of 3 Rifle Companies and Heavy Wpns Co.
6th Rifle Co is composed of 4 Rifle Platoons
3rd Rifle Platoon is composed of MG Sqd plus 3 Rifle Sqds with 12 men in each squad.
3rd Platoon:

Each company of the 117th Div has one Korean interpreter. These Koreans joined the Div at ANTUNG Aug 50.
The 117th Div is intact and under the saioo chain of command that it was prior to crossing the YALU River into KOREA.
No parts of the 117th Div have been integrated into the NKA.
4. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Inducted into the Chinese Nationalist Army in SZECHWAN-SHENG.
Captured by the CCF (39th Army) on 24 Dec 49 in KWANGSI-SHENG and inducted into the 39th Army on the same day.
Departed from KWANGSI-SHENG on 10 Feb 50, by train with entire 117th Div, and traveled via the following places:

17th Regt departed ANTUNG (MANCHURIA) on 24 Oct 50, marched at night over the automobile bridge across the YALU River, and arrived at SINUIIJU (KOREA) the same night.
Continued marching (at night only) and arrived at UNSAN (YE 3928) on 29 Oct 50.
From 30 Oct 50, the 17th Regt was attacked by US troops until the 17th Regt was forced to withdraw approx 6 km northward on 4 Nov 50. There, the Regt dug entrenchments until 11 Nov 50. Tranches were approx 2 meters deep and 2 meters wide. They were used for protection from UN air attacks. Individuals dug foxholes, too. There were no permanent fortifications.
At 161400 1 Nov 50, the PW and 3 other CCF EM went into an unidentified village (vicinity of YE 2406) to search for food. They were captured 2 hours later by US 5th RCT troops, entering the village.
5. PERSONALITIES:PW knows of no Soviet or Japanese personnel being in the 39th Army. No other information.
6. REPLACEMENTS:Approx 400 Chinese replacements joined the 17th Regt on 31 Oct 50, in the vicinity of UNSAN.
7. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:When the 17th Regt departed from ANTUNG on 24 Oct 50, personnel brought rations sufficient for 5 days. When supply was exhausted, they confiscated food from Korean farmers.
No other information.
8. ARMOR & ARTILLERY:Observed 4 truck-drawn light artillery pieces attached to the 117th Div on 30 Oct 50 in the vicinity of UNSAN.
9. MORALE:17th Regt personnel have low moral be cause approx 60% of the personnel are former CNA soldiers and have no wish to fight.

11. GENERAL INFORMATION:
PW was not a volunteer for Korean service; the 39th Army was not a volunteer unit, and the PW received no instructions to appear to be a volunteer in the event of capture.
The 39th Army did not participate in the invasion of HAINAN Island and has not received amphibious training.
PW has never heard of the Iron and Steel Brigade.
Various pay grades in the 39th Army are as follows:

PW knows of no CCF units with Soviet equipment.
The CCF has no paratroops, according to PW.
PW alleges that the CCF has Armored Divisions, but he does not know the designation of any of them. PW heard that one Armored Div was stationed at PEIPING (PEKING), HOPEI -SHENG during the spring of 1950.
CNA soldiers and equipment were integrated into the CCF units capturing them.
PW was never informed as to why the CCF has come to KOREA.
