1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: SHO Chong Jong (23) and LIN Kuo Chun (34)
RANK: Pvts
DUTY: Both Ammo Bearer
UNIT: Both 38th Army, 114th Div, 342nd Regt, 2nd Bn, Hvy Wpns Co, 2nd Plat, 4th Sqd.
PLACE AND DATE OF CAPTURE: Hill 814 (BU5204) 16 Nov 50 1500 hrs.

2. ASSESSMENT:
Both PWs, since they traveled mostly at night and in strange country could not give exact time and location of their units. However, information given seems to be fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. ORGANIZATION, STRENGTH AND DISPOSITION:
O/A 20 Oct the 114th Div was at KAIWEN, MANCHURIA. PWs only know of their own unit, (342nd Regt), which crossed the Yalu river on freight cars with approx 2500 men 28 Oct 50. (crossing point believed to be at MANP’OJIN) This unit traveled south for 3 nights on the main road, then took mountain trails and arrived at Hill 814 (vicinity BU5204) o/a 5 Nov 50.
Disposition of the 2nd Bn was as follows; the 2nd Bn CP and 4th Co (200 men) were located on top of hill. The 5th and 6th Cos were dispersed on the east foot of this hill approx 1600 meter apart parallel with road which runs north and south approx 2 KMs in west of this road. 13 Nov they received heavy enemy air attack and scattered. PWs stayed in foxhole for two days and surrendered to ROK Forces.
2nd Bn (500 men) consisted of 4th, 5th, 6th Inf Company and one Hvy Wpns company.
Hvy Wpns company consisted of 160 men and is divided in to 3 platoons and a platoon is divided into 3 squads. 1st and 2nd HMG Plat had 50 men each with (1) HMG per Sqd. The 3rd mortar platoon had (3) 82mm mortars.

4. MISSION:
They were only told to disperse at vicinity of Hill 814 and wait for further orders.

5. SUPPLY:
A. Wpns and Ammo
All the ammo unit had was carried by men when they came into KOREA. Each rifleman had approx 200 rds of ammo and HMG had 2000 rds per gun. The amount of ammo for HMGs and mortars is unknown. The unit did not receive any weapons or ammo supply since they entered KOREA.

B. Clothing
Before the unit crossed the border, the troops were issued winter clothing consisting of fur-lined cap, cotton padded coat and trousers, fur-lined shoes and a pair of socks.

C. Food
Right after the unit crossed the border, each man received approx 6 1/2 lbs of biscuit. During their travel from YALU River to vicinity of Hill 814, the troops were fed two times a day, consisting of corn meal. Rations were brought down once a week by (5) trucks from KAIWEN, MANCHURIA. After arriving at Hill 814, the troops were fed two times on the first day, once on the second day and from then till 16 Nov, they did not have anything to eat.

5. MORALE:
Most of the men were former Chinese Nationalists and, since they were conscripted into the CCF, they feel that they were treated as outsiders. Also most of them did not know they were coming to KOREA. When they got on the train to KOREA, their CO told them that they were going back to their homes. PWS found out that they were in KOREA when they observed that the surroundings were different from MANCHURIA and when they were attacked by enemy aircraft.
There is a definite lack of food which is of gravest concern to the individual soldiers.

For the AC of S, G-2:
