3. MILITARY HISTORY:13 Oct 50 - Inducted and assigned to the 1st Co, 524th AAA Unit at KIKOK (歧谷).
14 Oct 50 - The 524th Unit left KIKOK on foot.
15 OCt 50 - Arrived SONG HUNG NI (松興里).
20 Oct 50 - The 524th Unit disorganized by UN air attacks. PW and 23 others withdraw to HYESANJIN (惠山鎭) on orders from their commander.
31 Oct 50 - Arrived at HYESANJIN.
4 Nov 50 - PW and 27 others arrived 4km N of KAPSAN (甲山).
18 Nov 50 - The 28 men left KAPSAN for HELIM (회리) 11km N of KAPSAN to pick up three 11.7mm AAMGs, and returned to KAPSAN the same night.
19 Nov 50 - Unit disorganized when they received news of the UN forces advancing toward them. PW was captured 1km N of KAPSAN.
4. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:The 524th Ind AAMG Unit consisted of 1st, 2nd 3rd Cos. Unit strength was approx 375 men. Only 75 men were armed with PPSH SMGs. Each Co was composed of 3 Plats, and there were 4 Sqds in each Plat.
The mission of the 524th Unit was to guard the hydro electric power plants at CHOSHIN Reservoir, and SONGHUNG NI (松興里)
PW heard that approx 25 men were guarding a power plant at TANCHION (端川), and 25 men were stationed somewhere in HAMGYONG PUKTO (咸鏡北道). When the 524th Unit disorganized at SONGHUNG NI on 20 Oct 50, they were told to rendezvous at CHANGJIN (長津).
Only weapons that at KAPSAN PW observed were 3/11.7mm AAMGs with 900 rds of ammo,
5. OTHER UNITS:PW observed remnants of the following units at KAPSAN on 19 Nov 50, heading for HYESANJIN (惠山鎭).

The men of these units were armed only with rifles.
6. MORALE:The morale was low due to lack of food and weapons. Approx 300 of the 524th Unit were conscripts, who had no desire to fight.
