1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative.
PW has an extreme impediment in his speech, is a slow thinker, and was unobservant. Therefore, information is very limited and seems to be only partially reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH OF UNITS:
111th Division composed of the 355th, 356th, and 357th Regiments.
357th Regiment composed of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Battalions.
1st Battalion composed of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Rifle Companies and a Heavy Weapons Company.
3rd Rifle Company composed of 3 Rifle Platoons and a 60mm Mortar Platoon.
2nd Rifle Platoon composed of 3 squads with 10 men per squad.
60mm Mortar Platoon composed of 3 squads with 11 men per squad.
3rd Company, 9 officers and 141 EM.

Each Company in the 357th Regiment, 111th Division has one Korean serving as an interpreter who joined the Division o/a 11
Oct 50 at ANTUNG, MANCHURIA.
PW knows of no Russians or Japanese being in or attached to the 48th Army.
PW stated that the entire 111th Division is intact and under the same chain of command that it was prior to crossing the YALU River.
No parts of the CCF have been integrated into Korean units, according to PW.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
Objective of the 111th Division was unknown.
PW knows of no units other than those of the 111th Division having come to KOREA, but he believes that the entire 111th Division came to KOREA because his Company Commander told him so.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted into the Chinese Nationalist Army during 1942, in HUNAN-SHENG.
Captured by the CCF (48th Army) during 1947 in JEHO-SHENG MANCHURIA.
Inducted into the CCF (48th Army) during Sep 48 in JEHO-SHENG.
Departed from JEHO SHENG during Oct 48, marched with the entire 48th Army, and arrived at HSIANHAIKUAN during Oct 48.
Departed from HSIANHAIKUAN during Nov 48, marched with the entire 48th Army, and arrived at PEIPING (PEKING) during Dec 48.
Departed from PEIPING during Feb 49, marched with the entire 48th Army, and arrived at HUPEI SHENG during Apr 49.
Departed from HUPEI SHENG during May 49, marched with the entire 48th Army, and arrived at KUANGHSI SHENG during Jul 49.
Departed from KUANGHSI SHENG during Aug 49, marched with the entire 48th Army, and arrived at KUANGTUNG (CANTON) during Nov 49.
Departed from KUANGTUNG (CANTON) with the entire 48th Army on sail boats (40 men per boat) and invaded HAINAN Island 5 Feb 50 without any resistance from the CNA. By 12 Feb 50, HAINAN Island was secure,
(PW stated that the entire 48th and 44th Armies plus one division of the 43rd Army participated in the invasion of HAINAN Island).
Departed from HAINAN Island 25 Feb 50, with the entire 48th Army by sail boats, and arrived at KWANGCHOU HSIH (廣州市) o/a 2 Mar 50.
Departed from KWANGCHOU HSIH during Jun 50, by train with the entire 48th Army, and arrived in HUNAN SHENG during Jun 50.
Departed from HUNAN SHENG during Jun 50, with the entire 48th Army by train, and arrived at HUPEI SHENG on 15 Jul 50.
Departed from HUPEI SHENG on 18 Jul 50, by train with the entire 48th Army, and arrived at ANTUNG on 29 Jul 50.
Departed from ANTUNG o/a 15 Oct 50 (crossed over a newly constructed wooden bridge across the YALU River) with the entire 111th Division at night, and arrived at SINUIJU (KOREA) the same night. Continued marching southward (at night only) until 5 Nov 50. 6 Nov 50, the 357th Regiment (111th Division) was attacked by UN aircraft and shelled by artillery, causing the division to withdraw northward. PW remained behind, however, because his feet hurt, and was captured at 061200 1 Nov 50.

7. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
When the 111th Division departed for KOREA from ANTUNG, MANCHURIA o/a 15 Oct 50, each soldier carried 4 days supply of bread with him. By the time that was exhausted, the personnel were fed corn. PW does not know the source of the corn. No other information.

8. SIGNAL INFORMATION:
The 3rd Co, 1st Bn, 357th Regt, 111th Division had the following means of communication:
Courier
Bugle
Whistle

9. MORALE:
The morale of 111th Division personnel was low because they did not know why they were fighting in KOREA.

10. GENERAL INFORMATION:
Received no gas training or equipment.
PW did not volunteer for Korean service, he never heard his unit called a volunteer unit, and he received no instructions as to what to do or say in the event of capture.
The 48th Army never underwent amphibious training but it participated in the invasion of HAINAN Island.
PW has never heard of an Iron & Steel Brigade but stated that the CCF has Iron & Steel Guard units whose personnel guard CCF railways.
PW has never heard of Japanese units in the CCF
In addition to regular troops the Chinese Communists have Peace Preservation (Police Constabulary) Department personnel in every city throughout CHINA.
PW does not know what type of recruiting program the CCF has or whether the CCF is recruiting in MANCHURIA.
Monthly pay for a rifleman in the CCF is 80,000 Yuan.
PW does not know whether CCF units have Soviet equipment.
The CCF has no paratroops according to PW.
CNA personnel and equipment are integrated into the CCF units capturing them.
PW allegedly received no propaganda instruction while in the CCF.
