3. MILITARY HISTORY:
12 Jan 43 - Enlisted in the Chinese Nationalist Army at CHAEKYAN (浙江). Assigned to the Chinese Nationalist 28th Army, 192nd Division; 37t Regt'l Headquarters. PW received 7 days of military training.
During the period 20 Jan 43 to 3 Sep 45 in CHEKIANG Province the 28th Army engaged the Japanese Army.
O/a 5 Oct 45 - The 192nd Division moved to SUMU (徐州) and was reorganized and redesignated as the 88th Division.
Oct 48 - The 88th Division was ordered to fight the invading Chinese Communist Army in the SUJU Province.
27 Nov 48 - PW and approximately 30,000 Chinese Nationalist troops in SUJU Province were taken prisoner by the Chinese Communist Army, and were held in various POW camps in the area.
Jan 49 - The former CNA troops were released from POW Camps and assigned to various units of CCF 30th Army in SUMU Province. The 30th Army was activated during Jan 49 at SUJU Province. It was said that the majority of the personnel of the 30th Army were former CNA troops. The 30th Army engaged the CNA from Jan 49 th April 49 at HSILIAN SAN (西梁山) NANKING (南京) and SHANGHAI (   ). In April 49 the 30th Army was stationed in SHANGHAI as the Shanghai Security Army. During May 49 at SHANGHAI the 30th Army was redesignated the 20th Army.
15 Oct 50 - The entire 89th Division departed SHANGHAI by train. Their destination however was unknown. The 60th Division had departed SHANGHAI a few days prior to the 89th Division's departure. According to hearsay (from Regt Ex-Officer), the entire 20th Army was to leave SHANGHAI.
O/a 18 Oct 50 - The 89th Division arrived at YENJU (兗州) and remained here resting for two weeks. Troops were informed by the Regimental Executive Officer that the 60th Division had arrived at CHINAN (済南) and world later join 89th Division at ANTUNG (安東県). The 89th and 60th Division were to stay in ANTUNG to guard the Manchurian Border.
2 Nov 50 - The entire 89th Division departed YENJU by train.
7 Nov 50 - the 89th Division arrived at ANTUNG and joined the 60th Division. Troops were informed here that the 60th and 89th Division would enter North KOREA to aid the NKA. The 133 Div of the 20th Army Headquarters were not seen after leaving SHANGHAI.
7 Nov 50 (Night) - The 89th and 60th Division departed ANTUNG on foot and crossed the YALU River and entered SINUIJU (新義州). At SINUIJU they separated, the 60th Division headed South and the 89th Division headed East.
O/a 17 Nov 50 - The 89th Division arrived at an unknown place in KOREA. While enroute the 1st Bn of the 267th Regiment was attacked and approximately 40 men were killed or captured and 30 wounded.
22 Nov 50 - PW deserted. (Place name unknown)
23 Nov 50 - Surrendered.

4. ORGANIZATION:
The 20th Army consisted of the 89th, 60th and 133d Divisions. The total strength of the 20th Army was estimated to be approximately 35,000 men who were mostly former Chinese Nationalist Army Troops.
The 89th Division was composed of the 265th, 266th, and 267th Regiments. Each Regiment comprised of 3 Battalions, the 1st, 2nd, and 3d Bns. Each Bn was composed of 3 Infantry Companies, the 1st, 2nd and 3d and a HMG and Mortar Company. Total strength of the 89th Division was estimated to be approximately 10,000 men. The 3 Inf Co's of each Bn were equipped with nine LMG's and three 60mm Mortars. Each HMG and Mortar Co was equipped with 9 LMG's, 4 HMG's and 2 82mm Mortars.
Each Regiment of the Division had 2 Artillery Guns (type unknown). Troops were armed with rifles (100-150 rounds) and 3 hand grenades. The HMG and Mortar Company carried 2,000 rounds of ammunition for each HMG and 25 rounds for each 82mm Mortar.
