2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and gave thought to questions before answering. Reliability -- good.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
22 Aug 50 - Inducted at P'YONGYANG (平壤); sent to Code School for one week; graduated with 30 others as Lts. 10 Lts were ordered to go to SEOUL but order was rescinded due to advance of UN troops. PW spent a month at aunt's home in P'YONGYANG.
20 Oct 50 - Due to retreat of NK troops, PW decided to go to MANP'OJIN (滿浦鎭).
30 Oct 50 - PW arrived at MANP'OJIN on foot. Assigned to 4th Corps Replacement Center. At that time, there were 200-300 officers and 40 NCOs, but no EM. PW was told to report to 41st Div, 2nd Regt, Comm Section, which at that time was located at NANAM (羅南).
10 Nov 50 - 2400 hrs; above officers, NCOs and PW departed on 6 freight and passenger cars. They took Manchurian RR route because it was the only way E to NANAM, since other routes were cut off by advancing UN troops.
11 Nov 50 - 1000 hrs; arrived CHIAN (輯安), MANCHURIA. At 1015 hrs, 6 to 8 freight carloads of CCF troops passed PW's train, heading for MANP'OJIN. Because the line was single track, PW's train was side tracked at numerous sidings. At 1500 hrs, train departed CHIAN.
14 Nov 50 - Train arrived at KILIN (吉林) via TUNGHUA (通化), UTOKOU (五道滿), MAEHAKOU (梅河口) and HAILUN (海竜). PW slept most of the time but awoke from time to time and observed concentrations of CCF troops between CHIAN and KILIN. These troops wore cotton quilted uniforms, and were armed with Japanese rifles with ammo belts and bandoleers (100-150 rds). On their left breast, they had white patches with black characters denoting them as the Chinese Communist Liberation Army (中国人民解放軍).
15 Nov 50 - 0400 hrs; train departed KILIN.
16 Nov 50 - Arrived PURYONG (富寧), via YENCHI (延吉) and TUMON (圖們). No CCF troops observed between these towns.
18 Nov 50 - 20 officers reported to 41st Div Hqs located near NANAM. PW was told to report to 2nd Regt Hqs, but deserted enroute.
19 Nov 50 - PW was captured.
