A. OWN UNIT:
Prior to his conscription, immediately after capture, into the CCF, 4th Field Army, 38th Army, 112th Div, PW, a HMG gunner, was in the Chinese Nationalist Army, from Feb 49 to Jul 49. When the CCF liberated I'CHANG, HUPEI PROVINCE, CHINA, a few days later, 112th Div and other divisions of the 38th Army moved to SANG TO, HUNAN PROVINCE, which was then the combat area. Sep 49, the 112th Div moved to HU TSU, KWANGSI PROVINCE, where it fought the Chinese Nationalists.
Feb 50, the 38th Army and its divisions pulled back to SUIPING HUNAN PROVINCE, and reverting into a non-military labor unit, aided the local farmers on their farms. He was told that such programs were carried out since there were too many troops and no need for them in the military service. On Jul 50, reconverted to military status, the 38th Army and its divisions moved back to FUNFUNCHONG, MANCHURIA and underwent approximately two months of realistic combat training. O/a 20 Oct 50 PW stated that the entire 112th Div left FUNFUNCHONG by train travelling two days and two nights arriving at ANTUNG on the Manchurian and Korean border near the YALU River over a steel bridge into KOREA and at an unidentified point. After this, 335th Regt and a battalion of the 336th Regt boarded two trains and rode for two nights. He stated that no travelling was done in daylight, for fear of enemy at a RR Sta (loc unk) where they gpt off early in the morning and headed out into the mountains (direction unk) where they halted until nightfall, after which only the PWs regiment marched away from the vicinity for an unknown destination. Five days later, on a wooded hill somewhere in the vicinity of KAECHON, PW was wounded by mortar fire and was captured 8 Nov 50.
The 38th Army was under the 4th Field Army. He did not know what other Armies belonged to the 4th Field Army besides the 38th (composed of the 111th (?), 112th and 113th Div also known or called the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Div). After the 38th Army entered Korea, the 112th Div was redesignated or is now called the (TONGAN TE E ZUDWI) (東安第一支隊) while his Regt (335) was called the (35th DAUUNI) (大隊) for unk reasons.
The 112th Div consisted of 3 Regts of 3 Bns which in turn consisted of 3 infantry companies (130 men each) and one heavy weapons company. Each company consisted of 3 infantry platoons and one 60mm Mortar Plat (each platoon having 3 Sqds ea). In the Mortar platoon there were eleven men to a squad.
O/a 5 Nov 50 he stated that the Regt CP was located about 3 km NE of a coal mine which was located approx E of KAECHON (YD5597). The three companies of PWs Bn were deployed on a wooded hill south of the Regt CP with the 6th Co nearest to the Regt CP then the 4th and last was PWs 5th Co. Height of hill where Regt CP was located was 80 meters, while that on which where Regt CP was located was 70 meters high. PW was informed this his Co CP was 1 km N of the Plat position. PW did not know whether his Regt CP was still there or not because he believes it was encircled by enemy troops after he was wounded.

4. MISSION:
PW was told that their mission was to help the N Koreans to liberate all of KOREA since they were fighting for the same principles.

5. SUPPLY AND EQUIPMENT:
A. FOOD:
The 4 day supply of food, biscuits and rice, was brought with them from MANCHURIA. After this supply was exhausted food was obtained from the Koreans.

B. AMMO:
For each 60mm Mortar in his platoon there were 40 rds. These were brought from ANTUNG MANCHURIA. After this supply was exhausted at the front there was no replacement so he became LMG Ammo Bearer. He said there were 4 cases of ammo for each LMG, also brought from ANTUNG. When PW was wounded there was only 1 box remaining.

C. WEAPONS:
There were 3 LMGs, 6 SMGs 925 rds per clip-possibly US) (sic), 15 Type 38 rifles, 4 Jap type Pistols in each company. Platoon leaders carried pistols and two hand grenades each. Each 60mm Mortar had three mortas.

D. COMMUNICATION:
Between companies and at battalion levels, runners were used for communication.
