2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and was intelligent. Information fairly reliable. Physical condition - Good

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
22 Sep 50 - Inducted at HAMHUNG (咸興) and was attached to the Ind 82mm Mortar Co of the 5th Battalion, 507th Marine Unit. At this time there were nine (9) Battalions in the 507th Marine Unit. 12 days military training.
4 Oct 50 - The entire 507th Marine Unit departed HAMHUNG (咸興). The 5th Battalion departed with TANCHON (端川) as their destination. The remainder of the 507th unit departed with CHONGJIN (淸津), SONGJIN (城津) and KILCHU (吉州) as their destinations (by rail).
12 Oct 50 - The 5th Battalion arrived at TANCH'ON. The Ind 82mm Mortar Co was engaged in combat training for five days.
17 Oct 50 - 5th Battalion departed TANCH'ON.
12 Nov 50 - Battalion arrived at an unknown village 16 Km N of PUNGSAN (豐山) (marched by night).
17 Nov 50 - 5th Battalion Area was attacked by UN Fighters 0700 hours. Approximately 300 troops were killed by strafing and rockets. The fighter attack lasted for two hours. When the UN ground forces began advancing, the majority of the NK Troops retreated from their positions. PW headed for the hills but was captured at SANNAM-MYON (三南面) 16-18 Km N of PUNGSAN (豐山).

4. ORGANIZATION:
Detailed organization of the 507th Marine Unit was unknown.
5th Battalion was composed of three (3) Infantry Companies and one Independent 82mm Mortar Company.
The total strength of the 5th Battalion prior to 17 Nov 50 was approximately 500 men.

5. ARMAMENT:
There were 6 × 82mm Mortars in the Ind Mortar Company. These mortars were abandoned while enroute from TANCH'ON (端川) to PUNGSAN (豐山) area due to transportation difficulties. All of the mortar shells were buried. The men of the Ind 82mm Mortar Company were armed with MOSIN Rifles with about 80 rounds of ammo per man.
All the officers in the Infantry Companies were armed with PPSH SMG's with 72 rounds of ammunition. The enlisted men were armed with 1 grenade and also with Russian rifles (80 rounds of ammunition) per man. PW observed one HMG in the battlion area.

6. UNIT INTENTIONS:
16 Nov 50 - All troops of the 5th Battalion were informed by their Battalion Commander to retreat and reorganize at KAPSAN (甲山) in case they could not hold their positions.
