2. ASSESSMENT:
PWs were inducted together and served in the same unit. They deserted their unit together and surrendered. PWs were sincere and very cooperative, Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
17 Aug 50: Inducted at CHINAMP'O. Received 10 days of basic training, assigned to the 94 Regt.
3 Oct 50: The 94 Regt plus the 93d, 95th and 1 Arty Regt was organized at OHINNAMP'O, to form the 46th Rifle Div.
7 Oct 50: The 46th Div marched and arrived at SINANJU on or about 11 Oct 50.
12 Oct 50: 46th Div departed, marched passed thru SUKCH'ON and arrived at SUNCH'ON (YD 5268) on or about 14 Oct 50.
15 Oct 50: PWs were told by their Plat leader that 4 Divs were going E toward YANGDOK (BU 9744), following the main highway north to PUKCH'ANG (BU 8671), then due south to YANGDOK. Departed, marched and arrived at PUKCH'ANG 16 Oct 50. PWs deserted and returned to SUNCH'ON where they surrendered 20 Oct 50.

Original Organization und Strength:
46 Rifle 4 Div - approx 9,000 men (As of 20 Oct 50). Comprised the 93d, 94th, 95th Rifle Regts and l Arty Regt.
94th Rifle Regt - approx 2,500 men in 3 Bns.
2nd Bn had 4 Rifle Cos; 1 Reserve Co; 1 signal Plat; 1 Med Plat, 1 Recon Co and 1 Hq Plat.
1st Bn consists of 3 Rifle Cos; 1 Reserve Rifle Co; 1 Signal Plat; 1 Med Flat; 1 Recon Plat; and 1 Hq Plat.

Composition of Unit as of 20 Oct 50:
46th Rifle Div - approx 4,000 men.

Equipment (As of 20 Oct):
46th Rifle Div - 94th Regt, lst Bn - 1 × 45 mm Ml942 AT Gun; 1 × 76mm M1942 Gun; 3 × 82mm M Mortar; 2 × maxim M 1910 HMG; and approx 180 PPsh Ml941 SMG.
2nd Bn - 1 × 45 mm M1942 AT Gun; 2 × 82mm M Mortar; 36 maxim M1910 HMG; PMZ-40 anti-tank mine, (no. unk); FOMZ-2 anti-personnel mine, (no. unk); and 20 GAZ-51 trucks.

Communications:
TAM field phones, telephones, and couriers were used as messengers.

Clothing:
Winter uniforms were not issued to the troops.

Food:
Troops were fed on an average of once every two days. Some of the troops were fed once every 3 days.

Morale:
Very low, because of climatic conditions, lack of equipment, and sickness.
