PW is cooperative, but is illiterate and unfamiliar with military service. Information, though very limited, seems quite reliable.

PW was not certain whether there were any other Bns in his regiment other than his own, Therefore, strength estimations are unavailable.
PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Conscripted May 50 in HARBIN with 200 others and formed the 3rd Battalion of the Independent “DAN”. It is believed that the 3rd Bn was activated at this time as this entire group of 200 conscriptees with another group of 100 men joined this unit simultaneously.
PW received no training due to being partially deaf and was assigned duties boiling water from the time he entered the service to the time captured.
PW did not know if the other troops received training.
The entire 3rd Battalion departed HARBIN 23 Oct 50 by train arrived at an unknown place, 1 week later, probably on the Manchurian side of the YALU River. The troops, prior to departing HARBIN, were issued grenades. Observation during travel was restricted by individual blindfolding and the use of draperies.
After arriving at their destination, the battalion immediately departed by foot, probably towards KOREA. After 6 hours of marching, the troops waded a river (probably the YALU) and departed for the hills for an unknown destination.
During their march over from the time of debarking from the train, the battalion travelled through mountains. The main road was not used.
The battalion engaged a UN Force for the first time o/a 6 Nov 50, location unknown.
The troops of the 3rd Battalion received no wages. They were told that they have no use for money, so in place of money, the troops were given soap, cigarettes, a few odd items, and their daily meals.
MORALE:Morale was low because of the lack of equipment and presence of UN aircraft.
