3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
5 Mar 50: Conscripted and assigned to 2nd Bn, 239th Coast Defense Unit.
May-Oct 50: Reassigned to 3rd Bn 239th Coast Defense Unit.
Unit Organization and Strength:
Original 239th Coast Defense Unit consisted of five (5) Bns of three (3) Cos each. Each Co had 3 rifle platoons and a HMG plat. TO/E called for (1) HMG per sqd but usually short one (1).
Last Known Composition:
3rd Bn broke up at SUNGCH'ON and most of the men captured.
Unit Duties:
The 239th Coast Defense Unit assigned task of guarding P'YONGYANG Province, Coastline. PW's supply section transported and prepared food for 3rd Bn.
Dispositions:
3rd Bn Hq near WONJANG NI (39° 25'N-125° 30'E) May Oct 50. 1st and 2nd Bn Hq near CHINNAMP'O. 4th and 5th Bn Hq unk. On 11 Oct 50 the 239th GUNBUTAI was being transferred to and unk place. PW saw only 3rd Bn however.
