FIELD REPORT (528 LDI 0108) 12 November 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: HWO, Ya-yoon (霍鴨榮) (Chinese)
AGE: 29
RANK: Pvt
DUTY: Cook
UNIT: 40th Army, 119th Div, 335th Regt, 3rd Bn, MG Co.
EDUCATION: None.
DATE OF CAPTURE: 120900 Nov. 50.
PLACE OF BIRTH: TUNGBEI, SEIYUNGSUN, FOOSHUNSHIEN, RYUTINMOO (東北 瀋陽市 撫順縣 文丁目)
HOME ADDRESS: Same as above.


2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was wounded on his leg and had been treated. During interrogation, difficulties were encountered due to PW's physical condition. Interrogation was conducted thru a Korean interpreter who has knowledge of Chinese and evaluation of information obtained should be assessed accordingly. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology.
PW was inducted into the CCF Aug 49 at TUNGBEI, China and received four (4) months of training. From TUNGBEI, PW was sent to KWANTUNG and then to KWANGSI Province. PW crossed the YALU River o/a 28 Oct 50 and was captured on 12 Nov 50.

b. Unit Organization and strength.
The 40th Army consists of 3 Inf Divs, 118th, 119th & 120th, and a Arty Div.
Each Regt consists of 3 Bns. The 3rd Bn consists of 3 Rifle Cos and a MG Co.
Strength of Div was a approx 10,000. Strength of PW's Co was approx 150.

c. Equipment.
PW's Co was equipped with two (2) mortars (size u/k), six (6) HMGs, & two (2) Bazookas. The men were armed with rifles. No tanks were observed by PW.

4. SPECIAL EEI.
a. There were two (2) Chinese-Korean interpreters assigned to his Co.
b. Uniform worn at Time of Interrogation was NK winter uniform, which, according to PW, was issued to him after crossing the border.
c. PW travelled by foot after crossing the border.
