PW in fair physical condition at time of interrogation. Inducted into the Chinese Nationalists Army in Jul 1947. Captured after deserting his unit which was surrounded in the vic YE3101, on 6 Oct 50. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. Interrogation conducted thru a Chinese speaking Korean interpreter and evaluation of information obtained should be assessed accordingly. Recommended for further interrogation.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:a. Chronology.
PW was a farmer prior to being inducted into the Chinese Nationalists Army in Jul 47. Received 2 - 3 months of infantry training at PIHAI and ANTUNG with the 125th Army, 183rd Div, 59th Regt, 3rd Bn, HMG Co, 1st Plat 1st Sqd. Fought against the CCF in KWANGSI for six months, 47-48. Captured by the CCF 5 Dec 49 and placed in the the 40th Army, 119th Div, 355th Regt, 1st Bn, 1st HMG Co, 3rd Plat, 8th Sqd. Sent HAINANTO (海南島) on Mar 50 and fought the Chinese Nationalist forces. Left HAINANTO o/a 3 May 50 by boat and arrived at HWANTUNG the following day. Marched for 50 days to HOPEI (湖北). PW's army entrained for ANTUNG and enroute it was joined by the 38th an 39th Armies. The armies arrived at ANTUNG in mid-Aug 50. The three armies trained for about 30 days. Training consisted of smll arms firing and mountain climbing. No tanks observed while training but observed 9 artillery pieces (claimed to be mountain guns). PW's unit departed from ANTUNG 23 Oct 50 and crossed the YALU River Bridge into Korea. PW heard that the 38th and 39th Armies crossed the borde on the same day. 27 Oct 50, PW's unit came in contact with enemy elemets, receiving artillery fire and strafing. The 355th Regt suffered 30 casualties 27-29 Oct 50, PW's unit came in contact wit enemy elements, receiving artillery fire and strafing. The 355th Regt suffered 30 casualties 27-29 Oct 50. PW was capturd after deserting his unit which was encircled on 6 Oct 50 in vic YE3101.
b. Unit Organization.
The 40th Army consisted of the 117th Div, 118th Div and the 119th Div. The 119th Div consisted of the 355th, 356th and 357th Regts.
c. Equipment.
The 1st Bn, 355th Regt was equipped with the following weapons:
6 Aircooled HMG, 18 SMGs (Chinese make), 18 Russian DP type LMGs, 18×60mm Mortars (Chinese make), 6×82mm Mortars (Chinese make)
d. Communications.
Walkie - talkie and telephones were used by PW's.

4. SPECIAL EEI:The Regt was composed entirely of Chinese except for 2 Chinese-Korean interpreters (Korean).
Uniform worn at time of interrogation. CCF winter uniform over the CCF summer uniform, and CCF summer shoes.
Date Prisoner crossed border: 23 Oct 50.
PW's unit marched after crossing the border.

Mission of Present Unit:
PW heard from his Regt'l Comdr that the CCF is fighting in Korea to prevent the US from entering China.

PW stated that his unit captured six (6) U.S. soldiers 041530 Nov 50, place unknown.
