PW was wounded on left buttock and waist approx 8 days ago and was being treated at the Med Clearing Station when interrogated. PW was dressed in padded trousers worn over officer's green. Both trousers showed evidence of red piping being pulled off. Upper garment consisted of white shirt, OD woolen shirt with blue collar and civilian type coat. PW's answers were inconsistent throughout the interrogation. PW answered leisurely with slight hesitation and showed increase in rate of speech when answering obvious questions. It is believed that PW is an officer, possibly commanding the 8th Co. PW gave three conflicting stories on how he obtained his officers type clothing. Interrogation was conducted through a Korean interpreter who has knowledge of Chinese. PW was captured while hiding in a deserted farm house. Evaluation of information should be assessed accordingly. Recommended for further interrogation. PW interrogated by 24th Div IPW Team, report No. H24D LDI 0098 13 Nov 50.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:a. Chronology.
PW volunteered for the Chinese Nationalist Army at PEIPING o/a 10 Jun 47 and assigned to an Independent Regt. PW was captured by the CCF at PEIPING Feb 49 and assigned to the 40th Army, 120th Div, 359th Regt, 3rd Bn, 8th Co as a cook. The 40th Army departed PEIPING Feb 49 and arrived at LIAOYANG Jul 1950 and arrived at ANTUNG the same month. At ANTUNG, PW's unit received mountain training for approx two months, and crossed the border approx fifty days ago. PW's unit marched to unknown location, travelling only at night. PW's unit engaged UN forces approx ten days ago, at which time PW was wounded. PW took refuge in a deserted farm house and 40 US soldiers came to the farm house and told PW to remain there. O/a 120900 Nov 50, a US ambulance came to the farm house and evacuated PW to a Bn Clearing Station.
b. Unit Organization.
The 40th Army consists of 3 Div (designation unknown). 359th Regt consists of 3 Bns and an Arty Co. Each Bn consists of 3 rifle Cos and a MG Co. Each Co consists of 4 Plats with 3 Sqds to a Plat.
The strength of the 359th Regt was approx 1,000.
c. Equipment.
The Arty Co had 3 mortars (size unknown) and 4 Field Guns (size unknown). Each Bn had 3 light mortars (size unknown). 9 LMGs, 6 HMGs in MG Co. Personnel are armed with Japanese rifles.
