3. MILITARY HISTORY:13 Aug 50 - Inducted at KONGJU (公州) and assigned to the 1st Brigade, Engineer Bn, 3d Co. Received 5 days military training.
19 Aug 50 - The 1st Brigade left KONGJU and arrived at TAEJON (大田) by marching.
29 Aug 50 - The 1st Brigade left TAEJON and started to NK for training, however at CHUNGJU, 1st Brigade was engaged and was defeated on or about 5 Sep 50.
6 Sep 50 - PW with 3 other men started toward P'YONGAN PUKTO (平安北道) because he heard that the defeated 1st Brigade also headed North.
9 Nov 50 - On the way P'YONGAN PUKTO, PW with 3 other men were caught by NK Troops at ONYANG-NI (溫陽里) and were assigned to the 1st Div, 1st Regt, 1st Bn, 2nd Co.
10 Nov 50 - The 1st Regt left ONYANG-NI and arrived SACHANG (社倉) (approximately 60km NW of HAMHUNG) on 15 Nov 50.
22 Nov 50 - The 1st Regt was suddenly attacked by UN Forces and retreated to the North in disorder. PW was captured on the same day.
4. ORGANIZATION:The 1st Div was composed of 3 Regiments. The 1st Regiment was composed of 3 Battalions. The 1st Battalion was composed of 3 infantry companies. Personnel of the 1st Regt were all recent conscripts.
5. STRENGTH:Strength of the 1st Div was unknown. Strength of the 1st Regiment was approximately 1,500 9 Nov 50. There were 450 in the 1st Bn and 150 men in the 2nd Co.
Present Strength - When the 1st Regt arrived at SACHANG (社倉), the strength of the 1st Regt had decreased to about 750.
6. WEAPONS:Only half of troops in the 1st Regt was equipped with 7.62mm "MOSSIN-NAGANT" M1891/30 Rifles with 15 to 20 rounds per rifle. Officers were equipped with 7.62mm "SHPAGIN" PPSH Submachine Guns.
There were only 4 hand grenades in the 2nd Company. No heavy weapons such as machine guns, mortars, artillery or tanks were observed. No trucks or horses.
7. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:When the 1st Regt arrived at SACHANG (社倉) on 10 Nov 50, approximately 120 CCF troops were engaged in training. They were equipped with Japanese rifles (38 model). About 4 officers were among them. They have no heavy weapons.
This CCF Unit also retreated when this town was attacked.
