2. ASSESSMENT:
PW talked freely and his information seemed fairly reliable. Since PW was a replacement, information was very limited. (Note: PW served in the Japanese KWANTUNG Army for 2 months. PW was interned in a prison camp in SIBERIA for 4 years and returned to N Korea in Jan 49).

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
21 Jul 50: PW was inducted at CH'ONGJIN (淸津). About 950 men, including PW, received 10 days basic training.
7 Aug 50: The 950 men departed CH'ONGJIN by train.
o/a 17 Aug 50: The 950 men reached SEOUL via HUNGNAM (興南) and WONSAN (元山). They stayed here for 2 days. From SEOUL, they marched towards T'AEJON.
o/a 27 Aug 50: The 950 men reached T'AEJON via P'YONGT'AEK (平澤). Departed next day.
8 Sep 50: The 950 men reached the vicinity of PUGONG-NI via MUJU (武州), KOCH'ANG (居昌) and CH'OGYE (草溪). The 6th Regt Hqs was located here. The 950 men were assigned to the 6th Regt as replacements. Approx 120 replacements including PW were assigned to the 5th Co, 2nd Bn, 6th Regt. There were only about 15 to 20 original troops remaining in the 5th Co. The replacements received M1891/30 rifles. Each man received approx 200 rounds and 2 hand grenades.
11 Sep 50: The 5th Co Advanced to a hill approx 8 km W of CH'ANGNYONG (昌寧). The 5th Co was surrounded by US troops. The engagement lasted for about 2 hours. Most of the men including the Company commander were killed. PW and two others managed to escape.


Last known composition of unit:
PW stated that the 5th Co of the 2nd Bn, 6th Regt was wiped out 11 Sep 50. As of 11 Sep 50, the 4th Co and the 6th Co were located near PUGONG-NI (富谷里).

Armor:
PW observed 3 x T-34/85 tanks SE of CH'OGYE near NAKTONG River o/a 7 Sep 50. PW also observed 1 x T-34/85 tank in PUGONG-NI (富谷里) o/a 8 Sep 50.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of the troops was very low due to lack of training.

4. GENERAL:
Prisoner of War Information:
PW observed about 100 US PW's aboard a train at CH'ONGJIN, N. KOREA o/a 15 Jul 50. It was rumored that the US PsW would get off at the CH'ONGJIN railroad station.

Money exchange rate:
One N. Korean won was worth 8 S. Korean won.

Red Cross Insignia:
The Red Cross insignia was used on hospital buildings and vehicles in N. KOREA.
