5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted on 10 Jul 50 at SEOUL into the “Volunteer Army”. Deserted on 11 Jul 50 but was caught by “Internal Affairs Office Security Police” on 12 Jul 50 and re-inducted into “Volunteer Army”.
Departed from SEOUL on 15 Jul 50 with approx 500 other “Volunteers”, crossed HAN River by ferry between SEOUL Airfield (not KILPO Airfield) and YONGDUNGPO, marched and arrived at SUWON o/a 19 Jul 50.
Departed from SUWON o/a 20 Jul 50, marched, and arrived via CHONGJU and NAMWON at CHINJU o/a 19 Aug 50.
Departed from CHINJU o/a 22 Aug 50, marched, and arrived at HAMAN o/a 7 Sep 50, where the “volunteers” were assigned to various units of the 6th Division.
Departed with the 2nd Co (Bn & Regt unknown) of the 6th Div from HAMAN on 9 Sep 50. Deserted with 2 other “volunteers” on 10 Sep 50 and surrendered to soldiers of US 25th Regt.

6. ARMOR:
Observed 8 tanks (type unk) in SEOUL on 27 June 50.

7. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
Received an average of 1 rice or barley ball daily.

8. MORALE:
As all South Korean "volunteers" were forced into NKPA, their morale was low and they were looking for an opportunity to surrender to the ROK or UN Forces.

9. SOUTH KOREAN SENTIMENTS:
Average South Korean resents NKPA and Security Police because all able-bodied men and women are conscripted for the NKPA or for rear echelon labor gangs. The conscriptees are not paid for their labor and are called “volunteers”. Everyone fears the South Korean Communists who were liberated from jails by the NKPA because these communists are the principal means whereby the Security Police identify active anti-communists.

10. MISCELLANEOUS:
Observed safe-conduct passes dropped over HAMAN o/a 7 Sep 50. A fellow “volunteer” explained the meaning of the passes: whereupon PW decided to surrender to the UN Forces.
