1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative; seems quite intelligent & reliable.

3. T/O & E OF PW’s UNIT:
4th Div: 11,000 men.
Comprised of three (3) Inf Regt, one Arty Regt, one 45mm AT Bn, one Engr Bn, one Signal Bn, one Recon Co.
Arty Regt: 800 men.
Comprised of three (3) Bns (200 men per Bn).
Three Arty Btrys make a Bn. 50 - 60 men per Btry. One 122mm Btry (4 guns) & two 76mm Btry (4 guns each Btry).
All Arty troops were armed with M1944 Carbine, 85 rds per man, two grenades. Sqd ldrs PPsh M1941 SMG three 71 rds drums each, two grenades.
Engr Bn: 250 men, troops armed with M1944 Carbines, two grenades.
Signal Bn: 250 men, troops armed with M1944 Carbines, two grenades.
45mm AT Bn: 180 men, 12 x 45mm M1942 guns, troops armed with M1944 Carbines, two grenades.
Recon Co: 80 men, troops armed with M1944 Carbines or M1933 pistols, two grenades.

4. DISPOSITION OF ABOVE UNITS:
According to PW, the 4th Div is located between the NAKTONG River and a Lake (8 Km E of NAKTONG River 1143-1402).

5. ESTIMATED STRENGTH OF ABOVE UNITS:
4th Div: 4,000 men (10 Sep 50)
Arty Regt: 600 man, two 122mm guns and four 76mm guns (10 Sep 50)

7. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted 13 Oct 48 at CHINNAMPO. From Oct 48 to Mar 49, PW received Signal training pertaining to Arty firing along with approx 5,000 men.
In Mar 49, PW and approx 1,200 men departed CHINNAMPO by rail and arrived at SANSARI (석사리) for further training.
PW trained at the school until Sep 49. Training included firing of guns and observation of firing range.
In Sep 49, the 1,200 men returned to CHINNAMPO and continued their training there until 15 Jun 50.
On 15 Jun 50, the 4th Div departed by rail and arrived at NAMCHONJOM, 17 Jun 50.
Departed NAMCHONJOM, 17 Jun 50, by truck and arrived CHORWON, 13 Jun 50.
Spent three days at CHORWON and marched toward YONPYONG; arrived YONPYONG on 22 Jun. 50. They stayed at YONPYONG until 25 Jun 50. On 25 Jun 50 they crossed the 38° parallel and attacked TONGDUCHON-NI.
Marched through TONGDUCHON-NI, UIJONGBU, & KYONGSONG without much opposition.
Departed KYONGSOUG - 4 Jul 50, marched, arrived SUWON, 6 Jul 50
Departed SUWON, 7 Jul 50, marched, arrived KONGJU, (?) Jul 50.
Departed KONGJU, (?) Jul 50, marched, arrived TAEJON, (?) Jul 50.
Departed TAEJON, (?) Jul 50, marched arrived ANUI, (?) Aug 50.
Departed ANUI, (?) Aug 50, marched, arrived at HYOPCH’ON, (?) Sep 50.
Departed HYOPCH’ON, (?) Sep 50, marched, arrived at a point 2 Km E of NAKTONG River on 6 Sep 50.
Troops & equipment crossed the river on boats.
On 8 Sep 50 (0800 hours) PW ran away from his unit and went to the area where US troops were located.
On 10 Sep 50, PW was captured by unknown US troops.

8. ARMOR:
PW observed, four T-34/85 medium tanks at 2 Km E of NAKTONG River on 9 Sep 50.

9. ARTILLERY:
Beside the eight guns (122mm & 76mm) PW observed two 152mm M1 M1935 guns 2 Km E of NAKTONG River (1140-1390), a point approx 500 meters in front of 4th Div. (8 Sep 50)

10. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
PW received average of two meals per day.
Food was looted from farmers & villagers.
Ammo last received at CHINAMPO on 15 Jun 50 (85 rds per man).
Ammunition was carried by individual.

11. REPLACEMENTS:
4th Div received 500 replacements at KONGJU, (?) Jul 50; 200 men at ANUI, (?) Aug 50, and 800 men after crossing NAKTONG River on 4 Sep 50.

12. MORALE:
Morale was low, because they were hungry and tired from the long marches.

13. KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER UNITS: (8 Sep 50)
The 9th Div was fighting along side the 4th Div.

14. CAPTURED EQUIPMENT:
PW observed many US Carbines & M1 rifles being used by their troops, and also observed 8 x 105 guns being shipped to the rear.

15. US PW’s:
PW saw three US prisoners at KONGJU in Jul 50.

16. NK AF & NAVY:
PW observed unk number of Navy personnel and aircraft training at PYONGYANG.

17. S KOREAN SENTIMENTS:
S Koreans did not welcome the N Korean troops.
