PW had no idea of the composition or organization of his division. He knew that his platoon had 44 men divided into four (4) sqds with 11 men in each sqd. Each sqd was equipped with one DP LMG and one PPs 1943 SMG. PW stated that the 3rd Regt never saw action prior to his capture.

Intentions:
The objective of the platoon was MASAN.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale was low mainly because of lack of food and the demoralizing effect of US artillery fire. PW saw a US Safe Conduct Pass leaflet for the first time when troops of his company were retreating from the front lines. He claims that he intended to surrender after seeing the leaflets.
