2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and his information seemed fairly reliable. PW was a replacement and was captured about a week after he was assigned to his unit. Therefore, he had very little information. Not recommended for further interrogation,

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
8 Aug 50: PW was inducted at KWANGJU (光州). Approx 300 S Koreans including PW received 20 days basic training at SOGOK MYON (石谷面) Primary School which is located approx 2 km W of KWANGJU.
30 Aug 50: The 300 men departed KWANGJU.
o/a 5 Sep 50: The 300 men reached 20 km NW of CHINJU (晋州) via TANYANG (湍陽) and NAMWON (南原).
o/a 7 Sep 50: The 300 men reached H of HAMAN (咸安) (distance unknown). Here they were distributed to various units in the 7th Div. About 70 men including PW were assigned to the 3rd Bn, 3rd Regt as replacements.
o/a 10 Sep 50: The 3rd Bn was in the hills at 1141-1381. Here, the replacements received M1891/30 rifles and 10 rounds of ammunition per man. The troops could not come out from their fox holes, because of UN aircraft.
15 Sep 50: Approx 15 US troops attacked the hill which PW and about 20 others were defending. About 15 men among the 20 N Korean troops threw down their weapons and surrendered to the US troops. The other 5 men who fired upon the US troops were killed.


Last known composition of unit: (PW only knew about his company)
7th Co strength was 60 men, including the replacements, when PW joined it o/a 7 Sep 50. Among the 60 men, 15 surrendered to the US troops and 5 were killed. PW did not know what happened to the rest.

Morale and propaganda:
Morale of the troops was very low due to shortage of food. PW stated that the 15 men surrendered to the US troops after reading surrender leaflets.
