4. DISPOSITION OF UNIT:The 7th and 8th Rifle Co of the 3rd Bn, 17th Regt, were located 4 1/2 km east of CHIRWON on a mountain side. The 3rd Bn was located on the hill 1 km W of the position held by the 7th and 8th companies.
The 2nd Division Headquarters is believed to be on the east bank of the NAKTONG River, North of CHIRWON (location unk).
5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:Inducted 20 Jul 50, with 1,000 others at NANAM. Between 20 Jul 50 and 7 Aug 50, the inductees received training without arms.
On 8 Aug 50, the 1,000 inductees left. for SEOUL by rail at night (arrived 17 Aug 50). On 19 Aug 50, the 1,000 replacements marched by night and arrived at SUWON, 21 Aug 50. From SUWON, the replacements marched through PYONGTAEK, TAEJOH, KUMSAN, MUJU, and arrived at HYOPCHON, 8 Sep 50. On 9 Sep 50, the informant crossed the NAKTONG River by boat and arrived at his assigned unit (3rd Bn, 17th Regt) on 10 Sep 50. Prior to crossing the NAKTONG River the informant picked up a safe conduct leaflet.
6. ARMOR:One selfpropelled gun (SU-76) was observed at CHlRWON (under going repairs).
7. REPLACEMENTS:The informant was one of 1,000 replacements received by the 17th Regt on 10 Sep 50.
8. MORALE:Morale is lowest among newly arrived replacements.
