3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
1 Mar 50 - Inducted into NKPA at NANAM (羅南).
1 Mar - 18 Jun 50 - Received basic training as a member of 5th Div, 10th Regt. Approx 2/3 of the men were Koreans who were former CCF troops from Manchuria. Date troops arrived from Manchuria, unknown. The entire 5th Div was situated in NANAM. The rifle regts of the Div were designated as the 10th, 11th, and 12th Regts. There was also a Div Arty Regt and other auxiliary units. The strength of each rifle regt was approx 2,100 men. Total strength of 5th Div, unknown.
18 Jun 50 - 10th Regt departed NANAM by rail. Subject heard other units of 5th Div were to follow.
24 Jun 50 - 10th Regt arrived YANGYANG (襄陽).
25 Jun 50 - 10th Regt marched south from YANGYANG. Other units of 5th Div had not as yet arrived.
26 Jun 50 - 10th Regt crossed 38° Parallel with a 38° Parallel Constabulary Brigade and marched south along coastal road. At 0400 hrs, ROK Forces were encountered at CHUMUNJIN (注文津). Border Constabulary Brigade reinforced by 10th Regt, 3rd Bn and occupied the town by 1200 hrs and fighting ceased with ROK withdrawal. Losses sustained, unknown.
O/a 3 Sep 50 - 1st Bn, 10th Regt by-passed the P'OHANG-DONG Airfield. Subject does not remember any place names of engagements fought prior to this date, and does not remember seeing any NKPA units including his own regt. The 1st Bn by-passed the P'OHANG-DONG Airfield 16 km to the W and marched south.
O/a 9 Sep 50 - 1st Bn arrived 1 km SW of WANGSIN-Ni (往文里) and occupied a 50 meter high hill. Strength of 1st Bn was approx 120 men. Disposition of other NKPA units including 10th Regt, unknown. No incidents between 3 Sep 50, and 9 Sep 50.
10 Sep 50 - 1st Bn was attacked by ROK Forces. Losses sustained unknown. The entire bn became disorganized and PW was separated from his unit.
11 Sep 50 - PW captured by ROK Forces.

Morale:
The morale of the troops of 1st Bn, 10th Regt was very low because the unit had suffered heavy casualties and had not received any replacements. Moreover, the battalion received little or no artillery support. The fire power of the UN Forces and constant activity of the US Airforce have caused the men to believe that they were fighting a losing battle. The troops were obedient to orders only because they feared death as a consequence of disobedience.

Supply:
Supplies were carried by civilians who were conscripted fros the locality. Source of supplies unknown. This system of transporting supplies proved very inefficient during times of heavy fighting since supply movement during daylight hours was very costly because of UN Air activity.
