1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

DATE & PLACE CAPTURED: 111400 Sep 50 in CHANGNYONG sector by 23rd Inf Regt (US).

2. ASSESSMENT:
Very cooperative, but has limited information due to short military service.

3. ESTIMATED STRENGTH OF ABOVE UNITS:
PW’s sqd was composed of 20 men, all armed with US M-1 rifles (24 rds per rifles).
There were ten (10) such squads organized on 10 Sep 50 after crossing the NAKTONG River at the ferry point E of CHOGYE.
On 12 Sep 50, there were only 6 men remaining with PW's squad.

4. PERSONALITIES:
2nd Div C.G.: “one star” Gen CHE Hyon (崔賢)

5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted on 21 Jul 50 at NANAM.
Trained with the Medical Plt, 5th Bn, until 7 Aug 50, at which time approx 1,000 men departed NANAM by train and traveled to SEOUL. From SEOUL, the unit marched through TAEJON, MUJU, HYOPCHON, to the bank of NAKTONG River, reaching there on 8 Sep 50. Informant and 200 others crossed the NAKTONG River at the ferry point E of CHOGYE on 082200 Sep 50 and traveled to a place 2 Km N of the highest mountain near CHANGYONG. On 10 Sep 50, the 200 men were assigned as replacements to the 2nd Division.
On 11 Sep 50, they were ordered to attack the mountain, but informant refused and ran away from his unit.

6. FOOD & AMID SUPPLIES:
PW believes food is confiscated from the civilians and distributed to the troops.

7. REPLACEMENTS:
Approx 200 North Koreans joined 2nd Div as replacements on 10 Sep 50.
PW believes that replacements are always sent to the front lines.

8. MORALE:
Morale of troops very low.
PW claims that majority of the people of North Korea do not like KIM IL SONG (金日成) because they believe he led the country into a hopeless and useless war.

9. CAPTURED EQUIPMENT:
Large numbers of US M-1 rifles were used by North Korean troops because of shortage of rifles. The M-1 rifles were usually rusty and in very poor condition. These M-1 rifles were issued to troops on the front line.

10. SOUTH KOREAN SENTIMENT:
Informant believes that South Koreans in occupied territory do not like North Korean troops because they confiscate their food.
