PW deserted his unit and voluntarily surrendered to UNTEN Home Guards 11 Nov 50. PW wounded. Claims to be self inflicted. Treated at 24th Div Clearing Station. Cooperative, Information considered doubtful.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:a. Chronology: PW joined the NK Army 20 Jul 50 at SARIWON. Assigned to 2nd Bn, Div unk. 2nd Bn trained for approx 1 month at P’YONGYANG, Departed for SINUIJU 20 Sept 50. At SINUIJU PW learned that 2nd Bn attached to 4th Regt, 48th Div. 4th Regt engaged in basic Infantry training for approx 1 month at NAM SINUIJU. Departed 15-16 Oct 50 for SUNCHON-MYON. Stayed approx 15 days then returned to NAM SINUIJU. PW stated that 1st and 3rd Bns of 4th Regt was disorganized. 2nd Bn transferred to 8th Regt, 17th Div vicinity PAKCHON 9 Nov 50. PW commissioned Jr Lt 4 Nov 50 at SINUIJU.
b. PW’s Unit: Composition of division unknown. PW believed 8th Regt only Regt in Division. 8th Regt composed of 3 Inf Co, Mortar Co, HMG Co, 45mm gun Plat, AT rifle Plat, Medical Plat, Supply Plat. Inf Co had aprrox 130 - 140 men, (2 HG, 20 PPSH SMGs rifles). Mortar - Co - 47 men, (2 × 82mm kortars, rifles). HMG Co - 50 men, (4 HMGs, rifles). 45mm Gun Plat - 15 men, (2 - 45mm guns). AT Plat - 15 men, (5 AT rifles). Regt - 6 × 120mm Mortars.
c. Ammo: Rifle rds were issued at SINUIJU. Did not receive mortar shells. Had to abandon mortars vicinity PAKCH’ON due to lack of ammo.
PW stated that 8th Regt retreated from PAKCH’ON 102100 Nov 50. Was approx 1 mile W of PAKCH’ON.
