At 0700 hours 28 or 29 Aug 50, PW observed about 16 bodies of ROK soldiers lying sprawled on a small hill 2 km east of P’YONGTAEK (平澤). PW’s Bn entered P’YONGT AEK between 0730 to 0800 hours. At a farmer’s house located 800 m north of the P’YONGTAEK Ministry of Internal Affairs (平澤內務省), PW heard from a farmer that the 16 bodies he had observed were those of ROK soldiers who were murdered by the North Korean Army after they had been taken prisoner in a battle fought one week prior to the PW’s arrival in P’YONGTAEK, The farmer said that the ROK prisoners were shot because they were either unable to walk or had high rank in the ROK Army. Identification of the North Korean unit and persons responsible for the execution of the ROK PWs was not disclosed to the PW by anyone in the P’YONGTAEK Area.
At 0900 hours on or about 20 Sep 50, PW observed a group of American soldiers interned in a large two-story concrete building, flat roof, located adjacent to a garage 5 or 6 m from the exit of the HADONG (河東) Market in the central part of HADONG (河東). These American PWs were guarded by two policemen of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (內務省) who were armed with rifles. PW heard from the two guards that there were about 50 American PWs in the building, which was called Temporary PW Camp (監時收容所). The guards said that the Americans were captured by the North Korean Sixth Div in the CHINJU (晋州) - HANAN (咸安) Area. Two of the Americans were observed dressing leg injuries of a wounded American PW. The Ministry of Internal Affairs was then located in a one story wooden building with a slate, gabled roof, approx 20 m × 15 m × 10 m, located about 100 m west of the HADONG Market. Names of persons responsible for the control of American PWs was unknown. PW was unable to furnish further information concerning treatment of American PWs.
