PW was intelligent and very cooperative. No attempts were made in evading questions and answers were given without hesitation. Information considered reliable because PW was imprisoned by the Communists for 3 years just for protesting against the high taxes imposed upon the people. PW is an anti-Communist.
3. GENERAL INFORMATION:a. Chinese Communist Troops
(1) On 10 Nov 50 to 18 Nov 50, PW observed a division of Chinese Communist troops at a small village called SHINFUN (新興). SHINFUN was located on the slopes of a hill 2 km N of MUCHAN. PW was on the way home from prison when he was stopped by a Chinese soldier and was taken to their hqs at SHINFUN 10 Nov 50. PW observed about 500 men stationed at the hqs. The regts and bns were spread out around the mountain. At the hqs, PW did not observe any artillery, tanks, or mortars. PW observed only light machine guns, grenades, rifles, burp guns, and pistols. PW states that the Chinese Communist troops procured their rations from the villages. They took everything in sight that was edible. PW does not know how the troops supplied themselves with ammunition.
4. REMARKS:PW was an official in distributing land at TAEDONG KUN (大同郡). He protested about the amount of taxes the NK government was procuring from the people. The government officials heard about this and had a warrant to arrest PW. PW learning about this, stole 20 bags of rice and was finally arrested 25 Sep 47. He was imprisoned at P’YONGYANG until 15 Sep 49, then transferred to SINUIJU (新義州) prison. PW was released from SINUIJU prison 2 Nov 50.
