FIELD REPORT (Ⅸ CORPS - LDI - 0171) 16 November 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: LEE, Pyon Son (李秉性)

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative during interrogation and the information obtained se ems fairly reliable.

3. ORGANIZATION, STRENGTH & DISPOSITION:
25 Sep 50, PW and 200 other men were ordered by the HAMHUNG Mobilization Board to report to P’YONGYANG for Military Service. Upon arrival they were inducted and assigned to the navy (Naval Hq Admin Section) located in P’YONGYANG. PW stayed there for approx 10 days loading rice, beer and other supplies that were to be transferred to TOKCH’ON (BU6903) and was told by a soldier in charge of the warehouse that the Naval Hqs was to be moved to TOKCH’ON because of the rapid advance of the enemy.
12 Oct PW and 100 men who worked in the warehouse marched towards TOKCH’ON. However, PW and 2 others deserted and headed for home, taking Mt trails in order to avoid contact with NK Forces. 30 Oct upon arrival at PUKCHONG NI, PW saw the ROK unit billeted there. He was stopped and was told to go home after being cleared by them. 13 Nov 50, when he was about ½ mile from PUKCHONG NI (on the north side) he was stopped by the Home Security Forces and asked whether he had formerly served in the NK Forces. When the PW showed a certificate of clearance it was taken away and he was taken PW by the Home Security Forces.
PW does not know tho strength of this naval unit. During the transfer he claimed that he saw about 50 navy personnel moving out, half of whom were armed with either rifles or SMGs.

4. ENEMY SUPPLY & EQUIPMENT:
PW stated that, rice, flour, dried fish and vegetables were stored in the warehouse where he worked. This food was used by the navy only. Its source was unknown.
Transportation of food was usually by trucks. Carts were used to bring in fresh vegetables from nearby farms. These were bought from farmers.

5. US PRISONERS:
PW stated that o/a 6 Oct 50 at P’YONGYANG he saw one US prisoner, who was dressed in rags, eating rice with a NK soldier guarding him.
