3. MILITARY HISTORY:
June 1937 - Volunteered into CNA 5th Army 200th Div 600th Regt 1st Bn 2nd Co at KUEI-LIN (桂林) CHINA and received 6 months basic training at “HAN TUNG HIEN” (香堂縣) HUNAN PROVINCE, CHINA. Fought the Japanese in KUANGHSI (廣西省) PROVINCE. After about 20 days of fighting PW returned to KUNMING (昆明縣) and trained for approximately 1 year with the CNA 5th Army. 5th Army moved to KUNMING (昆明縣) and stayed there for about 3 years.
Jan 1943 - The 200th Div was sent to BURMA to fight the Japanese. After about 6 months in BURMA the 200th Div returned to KUNMING (昆明縣).
Jul 1945 - The 200th Div again returned to BURMA after being reinforced at KUNMING, CHINA.
Sep 1945 - Returned to KUNMING, CHINA. Since then PW fought with the 200th Div against CCF troops in various places in CHINA.
Dec 1948 - PW was taken prisoner by CCF at HSUCHON (徐州) CHINA. The entire 5th Army was taken prisoner and sent to SHANCHAI, CHINA and were assigned to various CCF Units. PW was assigned to the 30th Army 89th Div, 267th Regiment, 1st Bn HMG and Mortar Co and trained at CHUAN SHA HSIEN (川沙縣) CHINA.
May 50 - The 30th Army was redesignated 20th Army but the lower units retained their former designations.
12 Sep 50 - PW heard from his regimental and battalion commander that the 4th Field Army and 3d Field Army were going to the aid of NK.
15 Sep 50 - 267th Regt to which PW was assigned departed SHANGHAI by train. PW heard from the 267th Regiment political affairs officer that the 60th Div, 133d Div and the other regiments of the 89th Div (266th and 265th Regiments) departed SHANGHAI before the 267th Regt.
18 Sep 50 - 267th Regt arrived at YENCHOU (兗州) CHINA and met the other regiments of the 89th Div. Here the Div rested for about 2 weeks and received clothing. Ammunition was also received. Each man received about 100 rounds of rifle ammunition and 3 hand grenades and about 20 rounds of mortar shells were supplied for each mortar. PW heard from the regimental political affairs officer that the 133d Div was resting at T’AI-AN HSIEN (泰安縣) and the 60th Div was resting at CHINAN (済南) CHINA.
2 Oct 50 - 89th Div departed YEN CHOU (兗州) by train.
o/a 9 Oct 50 - The 89th Div arrived at ANTUNG (安東) MANCHURIA. On the evening of this date the division departed ANTUNG on foot and crossed the YALU River. The division continued marching SE from ANTUNG for about 12 nights and arrived at a mountainous area near MUNAN-NI. Then the division was deployed in the surrounding area for about 2 weeks digging trenches and positions. PW observed a Regiment of troops in the MUNAN-NI area and while conversing with a member of the Regiment, found out that they were members of the 60th Div. Have not seen any elements of the 60th Div since then.
19 Nov 50 - PW’s battalion was engaged by UN troops but PW did not know the number of casualties in the battalion. PW did not see any action on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd Nov.
23 Nov 50 - PW’s battalion was engaged by UN troops and PW was taken prisoner with another member of his squad.

6. ORGANIZATION:
PW heard from the 267th Regimental political affairs officer the following:
There were the 1st, 2nd, and 3d, and 4th Field Armies in the CCF. Four Army Groups were in each Field. Army and there were 3 armies in each Army group. Each Army consisted of 4 Divisions and each division consisted of 3 regiments. Each regiment consisted of 3 Battalions and each Battalion consisted of 4 Companies,
The 3d Field Army Headquarters is located at SHANGHAI CHINA, The 3d Field Army consisted of the 9th, 10th, and 2 other unknown Army Groups.
The 9th Army Group consisted of the 72nd, 42nd, and 20th Armies and heard that it's headquarters is located at ANTUNG (安東) MANCHURIA at present. PW did not know what armies composed the 10th Army Group.
Source stated that the 30th Army was deactivated in May 1950 because the soldiers wore mostly ex-CNA personnel. The 89th Div of the 30th Army was transferred to the 20th Army. Source did not know where the 88th and 90th Div of the 30th Army was transferred.
The 20th Army consisted of the 60th, 89th, 133d and 135th (?) Divs. Each Division approximately 10,000 mon.

7. WEAPONS:
4 HMG’s in a Battalion
2 × 82mm Mortars in a Battalion
5 or 6 LMG’s in a Company
2 × 60mm Mortars in a Company
The Battalion to which PW was assigned was poorly equipped and PW believed that most of the CCF Units in KOREA had insufficient arms and ammunition.
