FIELD REPORT (Ⅸ CORPS - LDI - 0172) 16 November 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW vas cooperative during interrogation. However, having deserted his unit on 6 Sep 50 and due to his limited military service, his information was nil. He is not recommended for further interrogation.

3. OWN UNIT:
PW inducted 18 Aug 50 and arrived at KUMCH’ON o/a 26 Aug 50. Upon arrival PW was assigned to the 2nd Co, 2nd Heavy Weapons Bn, unknown Regt, 26th Div. O/a 6 Sep 50 when PW’s Regt and all units of the Regt were attacked by enemy aircrafts PW deserted his unit and returned home o/a 19 Sep 50. After re turning home he joined the Home Security Force at OJUNG-NI and remained there until 13 Nov 50 when all former North Korean soldiers were told to report to the Hq of the Home Security Force which he did and was routed to the UN Forces as a PW.
Regt was composed of two Heavy Weapons Bn, namely the 1st and 2nd with 800 and 900 men respectively. Each Co was composed of 75mm AA Gun Plat (about 30 men), 45mm AA Gun Plat (about 30 men), 82mm AA Gun Plat (about 25 men), Engr Plat (about 50 men), Mine Laying Plat (about 20 men), a Sig Plat (about 20 men), a Anti-Tank Rifle Plat (about 21 men), a Sup Plat (about 50 men), and a Sniper Plat (about 7 men). This Regt activated in Sep 50 and was not equipped with weapons but were expected to be supplied in the near future from sources unknown to PW.
26th Div Hq was located at P’YCNGYANG and PW’s Regt Hq was at KUMCH’ON when he deserted his unit on 6 Sep 50.

4. ENENY SUPPLY AND EQUIPMENT:
a. Supply:
Food consisted of rice, beans, meat, and vegetable oil which was received from their Supply Section. Food was always insufficient.

b. Equipment:
PW’s Co was only equipped with 20 SMGs because his Regt was recently activated.
His Co had 5 telephones.

5. PERSONALITIES:
Bn Co KIM (fnu) (金), Major, age 35, PW heard from him that he lived in MANCHURIA for a long time. His Bn CO used to tell his men that his brother was killed in the CCF fighting Nationalists.

6. MISCELLANEOUS:
Morale:

PW stated morale among the troops of his Regt was low because they were afraid of the enemy air strafing. He observed numerous small groups deserting with each enemy air raid.
