FIELD REPORT (528 - LDI - 0110) 13 November 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was a farmer prior to being inducted into the NK Army in Jul 50. PW was of average intelligence and cooperative. Information obtained is considered reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology.
PW was inducted into the NK Army 10 Jul 50 at SINUIJU.
After receiving 30 days 'of Inf training at SINUIJU, PW was assigned to a Security Bn, Guard Plat. 3 Nov 50, the Security Bn wes assigned to the 17th Div. The Bn departed SINUIJU by foot and arrived 8 km N of MAENGJUNG-RI 7 Nov 50. PW deserted his unit 9 Nov 50. Surrendered in vic of MAENGJUNS-RI. (YD 2392)

b. Unit Organization and Strength.
PW did not hear of any Regts being assigned to the 17th Div. The Security Bn consisted of 4 rifle Cos and one Guard Plat. Each rifle Co consisted of four (4) Plats.
Strength of 17th Div u/k. Strength of the Security Bn when PW deserted his unit was approx 700. All men of the Guard Plat (original strength 24) were KIA with the exception of himself.

c. Equipment.
Each rifle Co had 8 DP LMGs, and 3 PPSH SMGs. The men were armed with M1891 rifles.

d. Disposition.
PW stated that the 17th Div GP end Security Bn CP were located 8 km N of MAENGJUNG-RI (YD2392) 9 Nov 50.

e. Intentions.
PW heard that the 17th Div was to defend MAENGJUNG-RI (YD2392).

f. Armor and Artillery.
PW observed 3 tanks (type u/k) and 2×122m/m Howitzers in vic of CHONGJU (XD9096) on 5 Nov 50.

g. Morale.
Morale of PW’s unit was low due to lack of rest.

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo Supplies.
Food and ammo were transported from the rear by oxcarts once every three days (route and source u/k). The men were fed twice a day and food consisted of millet and rice. Each man was issued 100 rds of s/a ammo and two (2) handgrenades.

b. Enemy Aircrafts.
PW observed two aircrafts (possibly jets) on 30 Oct 50 at SINUIJU. Aircraft came from the direction of Manchuria. No markings were visible due to high altitude.
