2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and volunteered information freely. Information considered reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
18 Dec 1949: PW was conscripted into the NK Navy at CHINNAMP‘O (鎭南浦) and was immediately assigned to the 594 Unit Food Supply Section without receiving any training. PW worked on same job until time of capture. (20 Oct 50.)

Unit Organization and Strength:
Original Organization and Strength:
Under the Navy Bureau there were 3 Naval District Commands (594 Unit, CHINNAP’O, 597 Unit, CHONJIN and 599 Unit, WONSAN).
Under each District Command there were the following sections. District Communication, Security, Defense, Vessel Repairing and Fleet. The CHINNAMP’O Fleet consisted of No. 23, 24, and 25 torpedo boats and a cargo vessel. In each Naval District, a Marine Brigade was stationed and controlled its respective naval command. Each District Naval Command was under the direction of the Marine Brigade. The Marine Brigade in CHINNAMP’O was named 239 Unit which was composed of the 1st to 8th Combat Inf Bns and the 918th Coast Arty Bn.

Equipment (as of 20 Oct 50):
The Security Co - (90 men) with 12 SMG’s with the duty of patrolling the coast area.
Defense Bn - (270 men) with 36 SMG’s. Their duty was to guard rear areas including naval facilities. Each torpedo boat had 2 LMG, one on the bow and the other on stern, and 1 or 2 torpedo launchers. Boat weighed about 400 tons. Made in NK.
Marine Brigade (as of first part of Aug 50): Consisted of 4,000 men, fully combat equipped. But during the early pert of Aug 50 entire brigade left for the battle zone. A new brigade was organized with recruits and remained in the area as a reserve unit, alerted for possible enemy landing. But not properly equipped except for rifles and SMG.
918th Coast Arty (In Aug 50) - Unit was equipped with Coast Defense guns (125 mm), Russian made. Guns were installed at every important key coast point. However during early Aug entire unit departed for battle zone with all guns. The 918th was re-organized but without guns. Unit was digging. air-raid shelters whon last seen. (120 men).

Last Known Composition of Unit:
The Naval District Command evacuated toward SINUIJU.
The Marine Brig was retreating northward, met UN Forces and was disarmed. All the EM were permitted to return home but officers were taken as PsW.
Of the 4 boats, three were destroyed by UN bombing. PW heard one carrying many Navy commanders sailed toward SINUIJU (新義州).

Communication:
The District Communication Co had: 10 Radio transceivers, (large) installed in building; 2 × Radio Transceivers (small carrier type); 50 field phones; 2 switch boards (R-60); all Russian made.

Personalities:
Navy Chief of Staff - Vice Admiral (中將) HAN, Il Mu (韓一武).
Naval District Commander - Sr Col KIM, Song Kman (金成寬).

4. GENERAL INFORMATION:
(Hearsay): PW heard that there was an AAA Unit attached to the Marine Brig. The unit was equipped with one Stalin Gun (12 men-crew) and 30 Automatic AA Guns which were operated by an electric button system but details were unknown. PW observed a Russian Navel officer, believed to be a Vice Admiral (中將) attached to the Navy District Command and advising the Naval operations. When UN Forces landed in INCHON he fled with the staff.
