The 1st Co arrived there on the same night by truck where his Co received combat training and also dug trenches until 2 Oct 50, when PW and 90 others were transferred to the Reconnaissance Co of the 6th Regt which was located at P’YONGYANG 5 Oct 50. Whether this regt was part of a Div or Brig was unknown. 6th Regt was composed of 3 Inf Bns and each Bn consisted of 3 Cos. Attached directly to Regt was an independent Bn composed of Engr Co, 120mm Arty Co, Rcn Co, and a 57mm Arty Co. Rcn Co consisted of 120 men equipped with 4 LMGs and 50 Japanese M-99 rifles. 8 Oct 50, his Co with the 6th Regt retreated northward to PYOKTONG (YE-0699). He heard from one of the NK troops that this unit was called the 26th Ind Mixed Bn and estimated that there were about 1,500 troops. Almost all the men were Chinese Communist troops and were equipped with Russian rifles. He observed 20 trucks (Russian make) and 1 Arty piece (type unknown). PW heard that unit hid in villages during day and moved south at night.
