2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was wounded in the left heel. PW was shot by his own troops while attempting to surrender. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. Information obtained is considered reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
PW was inducted into the NK Army 10 Jul 50 at SINUIJU and received 15 days of basic training. Upon completion of training, PW was assigned to a Security Force at SINUIJU. PW’s unit departed SINUIJU on foot o/a 3 Nov 50 and arrived in the vicinity of NAECHONJONG (YDO495) o/a 7 Nov 50. PW stated that while enroute to NAECHONJONG, he heard from his unit commander that they were integrated into the 17th Tank Regt. After spending approx two days at an u/k mountain, PW deserted his unit-and surrendered.

b. Unit Organization and Strength
The Inf Bn consisted of 7 Cos. Original strength of the Bn was 900 men and the present strength approx 700. Composition of 17th Div u/k to PW. All the Cos in the Inf Bn were rifle Cos with 4 sqds to a Plat and 4 Plats to each Co.

c. Equipment
PW stated that each rifle sqd was equipped with one LMG. There were no mortars or HMGS in the Bn. Men armed with PPSH SMGSs and rifles.

d. Disposition
PW stated that his Bn CP was located in a house at the foot of a mountain located E of a dam in vic (YD0994) as of 090800 Nov 50. PW heard the Regt’l Comdr say that the Regt’l CP was located in a house N of road and W of bridge in vic (YDO495) and that the Div CP was located along the road leading N from NAECHONJONG, as of 082000 Nov 50.
The following code names were being used by the 17th Div. KUMGANG SAN, PAKTU SAN and TAEBACK SAN. PW did not know whether the code names applied to the Div, Regt or Bn.

e. Armor and Artillery
On or about 6 Nov 50, PW observed fifteen (15) tanks (T-34) in vic CHONGJU (XD9095) heading eastward. During the night of 7 Nov 50, PW observed four (4) tanks (type u/k) heading eastward with lights on, on the road W of KASAN (YD1297). 6 Nov 50, PW also observed one truck drawn artillery piece being pulled out a ditch one km E of CHONGJU (XD9095).

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo
Ammo and rice were brought in from SINUIJU by trucks. (route u/k). Other foodstuffs were procured locally.

b. Knowledge of CCF Units
On or about 2 Nov 50, PW observed unknown number of CCF troops entering SINUIJU from ANTUNG. Since observation was made at night, details are unknown.

c. Foreign Advisors
PW stated that there were no foreign advisors in his unit but he observed many Russians in civilian clothes in SINUIJU 3 Nov 50.
