PW deserted 11 Nov 50 and surrendered 14 Nov 50. PW appeared to be in good physical condition and of average intelligence. Information obtained considered fairly reliable. PW was very cooperative, Recommended for further interrogation.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:a. Chronology: PW was inducted 12 Aug 50 at SINUIJU (XE2O40) and received 1 1/2 months basic training at UIJU (XE3050). PW’s unit went to SINUIJU after completion of training and departed for CHOLSAN (XE4304) 15 Oct 50. PW’s unit advanced to KUSONG (XE9228) and on or about 22 Oct 50 retreated to SAKCHU (XE7473). PW stated that 3rd Bn of the 2nd Regt was completely annihilated, mainly from arty and tank fire. PW arrived at YONGBYONG (YE4011) on or about 4 Nov 50.
b. PW’s Unit: 47th Inf Div composed of 3 Infantry regts. Each regt composed of 3 Bns. However, 3rd Bn of 2nd Regt was annihilated.
PW’s Bn (2nd Bn) composed of 3 Inf Cos, Mortar Co, HMG Co, and 45mm Gun Co or Plat and Signal Plat.
c. Strength in No. of Men and Weapons:
Inf Co: 90 - 100 men. 9 LMG’s, 9 PPSH SMG’s, rifles
Mortar Co: Strength unk, 2 122mm Mortars.
HMG Co: 72 men, 12 HMG’s.
45mm Gun Co: Unk
2nd Bn: Approx 600 - 600 men.
2nd Regt: Unknown number of men. Observed 4 76mm guns.
47th Div: Unk number of men. Did not observe tanks; however, heard division had several.
d. Ammo: Supply point unk. Received 200 rds for rifle at CHOLSAN; however, 100 rds were taken away at KUSONG.
e. Communication: Independent Signal Plat attached to each Bn. served 2 telephones. No wireless.
f. Identification: Password for 5th Co: “BUL KOT” (flame). Permanent password.
Observed approx 20 CCF troops 1 1/4 mile S of YONGBYON 10 Nov 50. However, heard from villagers that great numbers of CCF were in vic of YONGBYON (YE4011). Approx 9 days ago FW observed approx 1 regt of CCF heading N from KOSONG-MYON (YE4419). No heavy weapons observed.
