T/O & E AND STRENGTH OF 9TH DIV:9th Div was composed of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Rifle Regiments and other unknown elements.
2nd Regt was composed of three Rifle Bns, Engineer Co, Guard Plat, Signal Co, Medical Co, and Transportation Co.
1st Bn was composed of 3 x Rifle companies, HMG Co, 82mm Mortar Co, Signal Plat, AT Rifle Plat, Supply Plat, and Medical Plat.
Remarks: All personnel from :Medical Plat surrendered to US 21st RCT on 25 Sep 50.
LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:Remaining troops of the 1st and 2nd Regt of 9th Div and 16th Regt of 4th Div (Total: approx 300 men) were located on hills approx 2 km W of KUMCH’ON after being pushed back from positions E of KUMCH'ON by attacking UN Force, 250300 Sap 50.
PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:Inducted 20 Jul 47 at CHINNAMPO. Assigned to Medical Section of Ind Inf Regt located in CHINNAMPO after induction.
Transferred to 5th Border Guard Bn, Medical Plat located in MANPO during Sep 48. O/a 20 May 49, PW transferred to 3rd Regt, 4th Bn, Medical Plat located in CH’WIYA-RI.
3rd Regt participated in the capture of ONGJIN on 25 Jun 50.
3rd Regt was designated as 2nd Regt of newly-organized. 9th Div o/a 8 Jul 50 at CHAJANG-NI.
2nd Regt, 9th Div entered SEOUL o/a 10 Jul 50.
9th Div crossed the NAKTONG River and fought in the CHANGNYONG Sector. Div suffered heavy losses, so it was ordered. to TAEJON to pick up replacements. While enroute to TAEJON, it was ordered to make a stand against onrushing UN forces at KUMCH'ON.
The Medical plat, 1st Bn, 2nd Regt, 9th Div (total, 7 men) deserted and surrendered to US 21st RCT, 1 km NE of KUMCH'ON.

FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:Due to transportation difficulties, troops usually lived off the land.
Ammo transported by trucks.
MORALE:Morale was very low due to high casualty rate and the lack of NK air support.
