1. FORCES:
From 25 Jul 50 to 5 Sep 50, PW observed Koreans of the CCF stationed in areas near the airfield and surrounding hills for defense against possible invasion.
They were armed with rifles.
2. AA DEFENSE:
PW saw ARTY and MG firing during air raids between 25 Jul 50 and 5 Sep 50. He believes that the hills in the vicinity of the airfield were well fortified.
He also observed guns (about 82MM) being hauled by trucks at night towards the airfield from the direction of the WONSAN STATION.
3. AIRFIELD:
UN planes bombed the field daily up to PW’s departure from WONSAN (5 Sep 50); but he noted that only the buildings on the edges of the field were damaged and the concrete runways appeared undamaged.
PW heard that there were 7 to 8 Russian fighter planes on the field but did not see them in flight.
4. TRANSPORTATION LINES:
The KEIGEN RR LINE (single track) was trafficable from WONSAN (元山) to YONGCHIWON (용치원) as of 5 Sep 50.
From YONGCHIWON PW's unit marched through mountain roads to SINGOSAN (新高山) because a large steel bridge between the two towns was damaged by bombs.
The unit entrained at SINGOSAN and detrained at an unknown town, by-passing. the town of POKKE (福溪).
Unit went to UIJONGBU (議政府), party by rail and partly by march.
From UIJONGBU the unit took the main highway to SEOUL.
